What would be the shortfalls on this.?

Sounds like you do need to tick another box, I had one and I would say test drive it to see if you like the e gear box, I can tell you the V10 howl is as good as it gets.

Engine apart, they're just not that great to drive - an R8 or F430 are much better. BUT, it's your choice and if you want one then JFDI! Paddleshift cab wouldn't be my choice, a manual coupe more enjoyable - but then I'm looking at it from the PoV of someone who loves to thrash an empty b-road and that's not what everyone wants out of a car. Top down at 7/10ths enjoying that brilliant engine... well yeah, it's not difficult to see the appeal!

I'd expect at "72 and on the way out" the biggest risk would be slipping a disc getting in and out smile

I’m a few years behind you but at 63 I’ve got a Huracan spyder.
I saw a Ferrari 458 spyder on sale a while back (missed out on it) the chap put 70k miles on it with mostly road trips around Europe. I spoke with him on the phone and he was 80 so who cares about age.

If you can afford it then do it.

Me! I can’t afford it but I STILL do it !

I'm 78 and run a Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4.
Getting in and out of the car is interesting , but so what I enjoy driving the car !

Not far behind you "runner911" so know exactly where you are coming from,

Gone are the days of pulling up in a crowded place and sprinting out of what ever Lamborghini or Ferrari that i was driving at the time ,

Being honest i rather enjoyed the limelight of owning such cars with less of them around at the time,

However these days i try to find somewhere a little quieter to stop and after a quick reconnaissance before exiting on all fours which isn't

such a cool look,

But once seated i still get that buzz as if i was 17 if not more knowing that at least i am growing old disgracefully

Yep.

And I'm sure the fact that they are around 6 x the cost of the Gallardo he was looking would be barely an inconvenience ....
