Thinking Piccanto or similar, that said EV depreciation has shown me some incredibly cheap Leafs, Zoes and MX30s but I guess the range on those is so bad as to be pretty much unusable for anyone except the true climate martyrs…

Anymore ideas welcome!

I had a picanto auto on holiday last month, it was a horribly noticeable gear change, would drive you mad long term.

EVs best avoided - if the batteries don't crap out through degradation there'll be minimal range left of such a minimal range to start with; and for god's sake avoid anything with a battery lease. Worthless junk at this point really.

They don't do that. Check the data.

How much are you looking to spend? On a 1st car I'd be looking at spending a max of 5k.

Good point I should’ve mentioned earlier, the budget is 10k.

I've seen the Tesla "battery degradation graph". Clue: it was drawn by Tesla. Meanwhile in the real world batteries can and do fail after a few years which can easily be replaced in your ICE, but will write off your EV. Heaven help you though if they catch fire...

Yes good shout. Aygo/Picanto may be cheaper insurance but will have to drive & see how bad the automated manuals actually are.

Better be careful of rocks falling from the sky too (hint: that happens more frequently than Tesla/EV fires).

I'm not an EV-lover by a long way, but at least I can resist becoming an anti-EV troll!

My fault for mentioning EVs, I just couldn't believe how cheap they have now become, but I know they can be a bit 'marmite'.

Wouldn't rule EV out but the MX30 range for example just seems unusable, particularly if it varies in the cold / rain etc. That said my intent is not to start another EV vs ICE discussion; but all sensible suggestions welcome. Thanks

Yaris Hybrid, or if EV, an i3. £10k will get you in to a 42kWh one with a winter range of 120-140 and summer range of 160-180.

I’ve drove the latest shape Peugeot 208 in automatic and found it really good.

Bit of budget creep unfortunately.

"First car", fine, but what's the requirement? Is this for a kid living at home to get them to and from work? It is it for a student to take to university, and they'll also use it to get to and from home? Are they also going to be named parties on your own car/s?

Yes / no but they may do some long distance occasionally / no.
