Beans up a wigwam is the easiest / most reliable.

Also courgette and or squash which will happily grow in a pot.

Tomato needs decent weather and even then you can get blight after all the hard work.

Salads are ok but can get slugged or go bitter really quickly.

Cress. Don't get much quicker than that. Failing that radish!

Runner beans.

Make a tee pee

You'll have more runner beans than you know what to do with.

We still joke about it 20years on, we had runner beans with every meal, we're giving them away and still had more.

Agree with the above - for me, lettuce and beans (tender or runner) are the most consistent yield.

Garlic. Ok not quick growing but the cloves from a couple of bulbs will give you enough new bulbs to last all year. Can grow them in pots which frees up the ground for stuff not suitable for pots.

Smashed egg shells, netting, and raised pots help.

And if you can encourage a frog zone somewhere they'll do the work for you, as well as bird visitation.

Though birds can be a double-edged garden friend!

Last year’s slugs were a biblical plague. Hopefully this year will be better.

I agree with salads. Pick the right ones and they grow quickly, and keep re growing. We didn't have any issue with slugs, hadn't considered the frog option mentioned above. These were next to a small pond with frogs so maybe helped!

The key to not having a glut then having to wait is 'successive planting' ..........
