When something goes wrong...
Discussion
Busy with an Airfix Tiger Moth, 1/48 scale.
Found a few of the items a bit fiddly but was trying to apply the transfers to the sides this afternoon. Total failure, the "Royal Navy" immediately tore, as did the pink side flashes. Feel a little dejected.
What do you do when it all goes pear shaped?
Carry on with what's left, stamp on it and say never again (as I did with a Lancia Integrale years ago, well I binned it didn't actually stamp on it).

Happens to every modeller from time to time. I was building a 1/144 phantom and ended up stripping all the paint off the wings three times due to blundering.
I usually have a day off after a mistake then start again.
If it helps you can request spare decals from airfix here:

The box art is a bit of a chin scratcher; I doubt any DH Moths ever landed on a carrier, not one with an angled flightdeck at any rate.

Sorry for the cr*ppy image but it was the only way I could screenshot the text on the boxIf it’s just a case of needing new decals, get some more and carry on.
If the decal issue has damaged the paint, and it’s acrylic, then you’re in trouble. That’s the main reason I’ve binned kits in the past (but have always then got another and finished it).
All depends what standard of result you’d be happy with too of course.

thanks for the encouragement
Could always make it into one that crash landed onto an aircraft carrier..
Might try for another sheet of decals but think I'll have the same trouble, there's a very flimsy bit on two of them that would rather tear than a) slide off the backing and b)would rather not adhere to the 'plane but happy to tear while trying to get it to the correct place.
It's the red and the Royal Navy bits.
They're separate items and the 'plane number at the tail is separate again

Solution to decals is warm water, Microsol and microset. Dip them in the water for 10-20s, then lay on a piece of kitchen paper to wick off the excess water. Whatever you do don’t leave them in the water until they float off the backing paper. If they won’t slide off the backing paper immerse them for another 19s until they just start to slide.
My big mistake is accidentally knocking a model onto the floor and breaking off some of the more delicate pieces, generally gets put back in the box with the intention of finishing “some day”. I think I’ve got more kits on my shelf of doom than either completed or unstated.

Good luck with HMS Eagle. Scratch built? At 1:48 it's over five metres long.Could always make it into one that crash landed onto an aircraft carrier..

If you use Klear before applying decals, don’t use Microset. I used it and ended up with a disastrous white residue under the decal. I chucked all my Microset away, and find a dot of Klear under the decal followed by Microsol on top works very well at eliminating silvering and softening the decal.dr_gn said:

The Sherman has Airfix decals using my method, they lie down beautifully even over the cast texture on the turret.
I’m also in favour of a gloss coat before and after decaling, I tend to use Windsor and Newton Galleria through an airbrush, almost impossible to get wrong.

Ordered a second set of decals from Airfix.https://support.airfix.com/hc/en-gb/articles/44113...
Warm water and an intake of breath and they wert on a lot better, not perfect but acceptable
Thanks
And yes the red is "dayglo" sort of colour which doesn't like to bend but tears easily.
There 3 stripes on the nose are reluctant to follow even a simple curve.
Anyone tackling this kit I suggest the camouflage alternative version in the box....
