Getting the rears on the CS replaced tomorrow before BTaP. I'm getting Continentals and they come in options (all about the same price) of normal Contisports and also N1 and N2 ratings. Now I know for a Porker (not that I think it makes that much if any difference) it should be 'N' rated but which one and what's the difference??

Cheers

Are you matching the tyres on the front? Don't mix. That's crucial. The N ratings just indicate a stiffer sidewall and tyres that have been approved by Porsche. N preceded N1, then N2 -we're upto N3 now.

Got no idea what the fronts are (probably not even 'N' rated) so will have a gander later. Guessing they get better as they get newer in design the N2s would appear the better choice then?

Use sport contact 2 rather than the sport contact. I tried, Goodyear F1, Yokohama AVS, Sport Contact and Sport Contact 2 on my 968 CS and the sport contact 2 was far the best. Ring AFN for the mobile people they use and you should get them done Sat morning as they stock all sizes.

Or try Micheldever Tyres in Winchester, usually the cheapest and they have massive stocks.
They even balance alloys properly.

I used to always recommend them, but over 2hrs wait from arrival to departure on a mid week day is a bit much for 2 tyres & tracking on a hatchback, and weekends you wait much longer even if you arrive early. They are normally amongst the cheapest around however.

Like f**k they do.

They made a tit of balancing the wheels of my Lotus Carlton once - the weights fell off when I was queing for laser alignment. Then after a hassle getting them rebalanced, they finally did my tracking. I asked for '1mm toe in' as recommended, so thoughtfully they adjusted my car to -6mm toe OUT. Tossers.

Got my money back on the wheel balancing, but only discovered their chimp like skills with a laser alignment machine when the front tyres were completely screwed 2k miles later. ****ing gimps.

I have since found tyre suppliers who are just as cheap and not see you next tuesday types.

Headley tyres are pretty good, and there are one or two others I have in my phonelist.

Can highly recommend Wraysbury Tyres in Chertsey -01784 490065. Speak to kevin, mention my name. They've been doing my tyres for years, remain competitive with Micheldever, and are vry, very, careful with aloys!
