I know this might be very cynical.

But it does seem to be the standard way of doing things now that traffic lights for roadworks are a necessity, even if said work is not even being done on the road or are being done on a sideroad, they love a 3 way of course maximum disruption. The cones and lights seem to only be there to park vehicles in, even if there is nearby parking or a private road or driveway they could use.

And can anyone give me a better reason than logistics/timing as to why they ALWAYS seem able to get the lights there in time, the hole ALWAYS gets dug on the first day, the bloke on 15 quid on a hour sitting in the traffic lights delivery pickup needs to sit there for hours, yet the work ALWAYS gets finished on the last day the roadworks are supposed to be there.

Please find a way to convince me this is not deliberate because it seems to be the only way roadworks are done these days, especially on busier arterial type routes.

Most roadworks are contracted out by councils now, so private firms are happy to drag them out for as long as they can, same with traffic light rental

In my town the road was resurfaced with that nice stone coloured tarmac in 2024, already it’s been dug up 3 times by companies and they laid black back down so now it looks like a patchwork quilt

The contractor completes the project in exactly the timeframe that he forecast and that's a bad thing why?

Most people complain that roadworks are never completed on time and always over run!

My issue is not the time frame, you can go to places to find that out.

My issue is, why does the initial aspect, usually putting up the lights and digging the hole get done first, then nothing whatsoever gets done for say 7 days? Not once, but every single set you see invariably on some roads. Is there a cynical view to it maybe? And at times you do tend to see the same road endlessly being "targetted"

Is it really that difficult to plan these things? And if it is why does this happen at nearly every single roadworks such as gas or electric I have seen in about 10 years. The hole gets dug, the lights get put up, then nothing for days other than some kind sitting in a car being paid to sit there, at whose cost might I add?m And why is he sitting there is zero work is being done at any time. for another 5 or 6 days? I just dont get it, it makes no financial, planning or logical sense.

The only people it makes sense to are the people being paid, the lights firm who get days of rental when really it could all be done in one day and the local councils who eventually force you into using a bike or bus as it is becoming relentless!

4 way lights, but two of the four ways are cul-de-sacs with 2-5 houses and the remaining two are a seriously busy A road.

C**ts.

"Road ahead closed" when they mean "Road closed ahead"

A mile long queue one way causing carnage at the next junction along, and zero queue the other. Whilst the aforementioned TM sits in his bashed up car smoking rollies ignoring it.
