1 house, 2 home insurance policies
Discussion
Is that allowed?
You can have 1 car with 2 insurance policies but the insurance companies don't like to do it so I think you would have to push them to agree.
Not sure if they all just say we won't do it in their t&c though.
But what about main residence home insurance?
Can you have more than 1 home insurance policy covering the same property at the same time?
Just curious.

I had a senior moment a few years ago and thought i'd not re-insured my house so had house insurance with 2 companies starting March & October for 3 years
Neither company wrote stating the property was already insured, Didn't have any claims so not sure what would be the result if I had to claim

No help, but I wondered while I had two cars insured on two policies who would be covering me if I was driving something else as both covered for third party.
Now this is a good questionI *think* in theory they'd both pay half. In reality if it was a small claim the one you presented the claim with would pay, but if it was a big one they'd do some digging to see if there was any other policies.
If there are two policies covering the same car/ home whatever the insurers usually pay a share of any claim assuming both policies cover it.

I have to add, I am not sure why you would expect an insurance company to do themselves out of a sale though. At least they weren't with the same company, that would REALLY grate!A couple of points to add:
(1) Most temporary cover policies state that they are the main insurer if something happens to the car during the temporary cover period.
(2) Having 2 motor policies covering one car "normally" means both Insurers are equally on the hook. The problem for you as the Insured is that you may have only had ONE incident, but that incident has led to TWO claims with the 2 different Insurers, and TWO sets of excesses being deducted.
