Myself and the good lady would love to hear your unusual destinations for the dreaded August two week shutdown.
Obviously, not too crowded, but to include:

Incredible scenery
History.
Good food and drink.
Not a resort
Budget, kinda whatever.... smile (because we're worth it)
We could take the Alpine, Camper van, or just go somewhere.

We've done Eastern Europe, Sri Lanka, Thailand, California, so pretty much anywhere is up for debate.
Many Thanks in advance.

Canada, specifically Quebec - Montreal and Quebec city, plus up through the Laurentides to Saguenay and La Baie if you wish (if you've been to Norway, it's geographically akin to that).

I'd normally recommend Japan, but in this case/time I'll limit it specifically to the north like Hokkaido. Otherwise it's hot as balls.

Vancouver, Whistler, and then Vancouver Island including Victoria and Tofino. Enjoy!

Albania ticks all the above, although it is getting more popular so the most famous beaches along the Albanian Riviera will be busy. 2 weeks gives you plenty of time to explore the whole country including it's famous historical towns such as Berat and Gjirokastër, yiu can also stay in the mountains for a few days and go hiking etc. the food is also incredible.

Another option could be Romania, Transylvania is the most famous historical region and you would have plenty of time to explore all the famous towns, cities and castles. The region is also dominated by the Carpathian Mountains.

Since I live near Bran I can recommend Romania.

The country is little known but has much to offer.

Just as a taste of what's here.

Look up the Bicaz gorge and red lake, the painted monasteries, sighisoara for examples.
