As mileage impacts value so much - how does anyone really know that a low-mileage car is actually that? These seem ludicrously easy to obtain and install and as long as you remove it before each MOT and service, no one will ever really know. frown

It’s very much just my experience but there are clues to look for

When I bought my current car, it was just under three years old and only 16,000. That might seem a few to some but as a business user esp. pre COVID it is nothing to me. The car itself was a bit scruffy, a few stone chips, wear on the drivers seat edge, brand new tyres on the front so I was a bit concerned.

But the rear tyres had a manufacturing date two months before the registration date of the car, service history tied up and brake pads were like new but had manufacturers logos on them (so not replaced). Clues like that all made it look ok. My guess is elderly owner with the seat pulled right forward, lots of local journeys and therefore parking to wear the tyres (bad practice of turning the steering on the spot as well) Had it five years now and it seems all ok

Look for other signs of wear and tear
