Be aware that all broadband providers use the same infrastructure; the wiring from your house to the exchange and the same equipment in the exchange. That means the speed and reliability you get will be the same no matter where you go, unless they are so incompetent they close your account or can't provide reliable DNS. The router they provide may be different so might bring some differences, but that's a bit like buying a car because you like the tyres on it, if you don't like the router an ISP provides swap the router. Because of this, it doesn't really matter who you choose, I can personally recommend plusnet, their customer support is good and I had no admin issues with them. I choose them because they are owned by BT and it's their equipment you are using so you may as well just use them for everything, at least then if there's a problem you are only dealing with one company. If you can go FTH (aka 'full fibre') do that.

Is BRSK in your area? Google them, enter your details.

Virgin lay their own cables - I've been with them for broadband for over five years and very happy with their offering.

How much do you really value watching broadcast TV? Sky is bloody expensive to get access to a bunch of non-terrestrial channels plus maybe sports and movies.

I cancelled my pay TV well over a decade ago now .. and it's been years since I bothered with NowTV which I initially replaced it with as I found I wasn't watching that either.

I don't even watch regular TV any more so I cancelled the license and pay for Youtube Premium instead, which has completely replaced casual TV watching/channel hopping for me. There's plenty of regular TV and movie stuff on Amazon Prime to supplement that and I occasionally use the catchup services for ITV/C4/C5 and the free internet TV app Pluto.

Broadband is much of a muchness - Sky use the same Openreach infrastructure as anyone else so i boils down to whatever 'new customer' deals are available.

I just signed with toob. They don't seem to be too well known but 29pcm 900 up and down fixed for 18 months. Lots of good reviews online.

Vodafone are doing some attractive deals just now, the best ones are available via price comparison sites rather than their own website for some reason. One that might suit you, especially if you don’t have a smart TV, is 150Mbps fibre, all your phone calls, an Apple TV box, 3 months Apple TV+ and an £85 Tesco/Amazon etc gift voucher for £35/month - click the £25 deal on the Meerkat comparison site then add Broadband Xtra for an extra £10/month. It’s £2 cheaper if you’re in a CityFibre street.

Alternatively just take the £23/25 deal and either use a Smart TV or buy a Fire stick or a Freeview Plus box.

Not true.

Most urban areas now have a choice of at least two if not three separate BB infrastructures. Where I live I have Openreach (fibre to cabinet, twisted pair to home), Virgin Media (fibre to cabinet, coaxial to home) and CityFibre (fibre direct to home).

Yes, I was trying to keep things simple and assumed the OP only had traditional broadband available. If that's not the casee you would choose by technology, FTC -> POTS is worst, FTC -> CoAx next best, FTH best and generally speaking you won't get a choice of provider for the non FTC -> POTS providers anyway so there is no decision to make so I think as suggested first thing the OP needs to do is see what technologies are available.

Just done the same, Citylink Fibre network has been layed under my street over the last month or so.

They also handle the disconnection of your current supplier - great ! Means i don't have to talk to the cret1ns at Virgin Media ever again.

Install in 2 weeks time, they use the latest Linksys router which has reasonable reviews too.
