As you all know, we have not exactly been spoiled for choice for tyres on the S2 - few tyres being specific for the S2 with 175 fronts.

OE Bridgestones
Goodrich
Toyo Proxes

Any others you can think of that fit the 5.5J front rims?

The 2006 spec elise is coming out with the same tyre as the federal elise - Yokohama Advan AD07 LTS. Same sizes as the standard Bridgestones.

There is a picture of the interesting tread pattern on the Bell-Colvill website under S2 orinnal parts in the online catalogue section.

I phoned 4 dealers and basically noone knew anything useful about the tyre. I contacted Russell at Lotus Sport and he said essentially:

Cheaper than the Bridgestones - Though so far I have found them for the same price. They will have marginally better dry grip, but will be softer wearing - probably in the 5-10000 mls lifespan. They feel that in the wet, the Bridgestones will be superior. It is not considered a track orientated tyre, and for that they still recommend Yoko 048's on the wider front rims.

Will be interesting to see how they bear up with time - I for one am not happy to take the risk just yet as I already have a set of OZ's and 048's for track use and want good wet weather grip on my road tyres - there are so many trees etc that with leaf mulch in the winter, traction is a nightmare.

Makes for an interesting choice - My rears are down to just over 2mm with a Walsh day at North Weald 2 weeks today. I have arranged for a mobile tyre fitting company to fit new tyres at North Weald at the end of the day, as by all accounts, I may not have any tread left at all.

Dunlop SP Sport 9000
185/50/R16 front and the standard rear size of 225/45/R17

Just had a full set on my S2, they start off a bit shit, but get better and better as you put on the miles.

More frontend grip than bridgestones imo and I feel more confident in the wet with them too

And, as an added bonus, the tread pattern is cool

I've got the Dunlops too. On the whole, much better than the Bridgestons. Especially when you consider that I paid £319 for a set of 4 compared with the £340 plus VAT I was quoted for rear Bridgestones.
