Never used it before, tried to watch Pennyworth, gave up the number and length of the advert breaks made it unwatchable

That was my experience as a 'free' subscriber. Absolutely useless.

Works ok for me if I have to use it but generally we record we record a whole series before we start to watch it. We can then binge it and whizz through the adverts.

ITV is a commercial operation, who do you think pays for the programmes to be made?......The Advertisers.

There are thousands of programmes to choose from going back years.

You can pay just over a pound a week to not see them.

Personally, I just go and make a brew or something during the ad break.

That would ba a lot tea, every time you sat down you would be up to make another, they made the program unwatchable, the other companies seem to have found a balance, long advert breaks but at reasonable intervals,

They’re all just data-mining crap, and adverts worse than watching actual telly.

I just record then edit ads out, then watch ad-free and data mining free, forever.

It's awful

very laggy, so many advert breaks and sometimes it forgets progress on an episode

Although I use the Scottish version, the STV Player, I find that if you watch an episode all the way through then apart from the adverts it's OK but if you try to pick up from where you left off or work out which episode you're up to it's a nightmare.

Worst tv station to stream where I live, far too laggy and freezes frequently, not a patch on BBC, C4, C5, prime, Apple, Netflix, they shouldn’t be given any sports matches as hard to watch.

Look on GitHub, YT-dlp might be an option… no idea, and likely against T&Cs or something.

But ultimately ALL this stuff has been FTA, has been aired, and probably repeated many times over. You’ve paid your license fee.

But technically you can record live itv hd, itv 2 hd, and itv 3 hd, (I can’t get 4 hd) on dvbs satellite which is arguably better than the online streams I find (nothing like paid for Netflix etc, the free ITVX, bbc iplayer to a degree, are all a bit mushy in complex scenes).
Over a few years you’ll be able to grab most of what you like.

I use it to watch Classic Corrie and anything else that takes my fancy. Desktop browser, no ads.

We have fibre to the house and also find it very laggy and unresponsive.

Plus a lot don't have subtitles which makes it difficult for the hearing impaired.

That's odd. I wonder if it's device related (?) I always use ITV X on my desktop PC. In all the years (lost count) no ads and never a single problem with lag or responsiveness. I watch mostly archived stuff but a little bit of live too.

Can't say I've had an issue with ads.

We watch all TV on the streaming services these days, via a Now TV (Roku) stick. I need to get round to taking the humungous aerial pole down actually.

An issue I have with ITVX is, I think, related to us logging in on the mother-in-law's TV once. We now get Central News despite being in Somerset.

Postcode is correct in the settings. I've learned to live with it and sometimes enjoy the novelty of finding out what's going on in the old country.

If I'm not back in time to hit 'watch from start' on The Chase, it can be a nightmare at say 18:20 to find the episode that's just been aired.

First world problems!

Could be

We are watching on the Smart TV. It is about five years old.

Navigating the menu is appalling. It freezes regularly.

I use the ITVX app on Appletv. Currently it won't play any live tv and hasn't for the last few weeks. I don't think it's updated very often.

We also use ITVX on an AppleTV but haven’t had any issues with watching live apart from the watch from beginning function not working.

Its an awful app BUT given it's free and the amount on there, it's worth it.

Sometimes I wish the people who made these apps actually used them themselves, then they'd soon improve it.

Slow unresponsive apps.... yuck.
