Bit of a thread bump, we're off to this next Friday. Appears to be a much larger event than we initially anticipated - as rail fans really looking forward to it.

It’s looking like a huge event. Unfortunately I am not going but the logistics of arranging it must of been huge. Seems virtually every TOC and many heritage lines are sending a train or carriage etc.

I am going on the Friday as a member of the public, but helping on my company's stand (DB Cargo) on the Saturday & Sunday.

Looking forward to it, although I suspect it will be busy!

The last time I remember anything like this was at Crewe works in something like 2003. Judging by the popularity it is a shame this type of event doesn't happen more often, but I accept the organisation is a logistical nightmare.

We've sent one of ours and it'll be in steam on a demonstration line. Looking forward to it although I'm not convinced that the organisation is that great - we'll see. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised - Come and say hello!

We’re going on Sunday but well aware the bag checks caused long queues on Friday. That aside, how was it?

It must do NR's Health and Safety team's nut, to see all those people wandering around a railway site without high viz, gloves and eye protection.

We went yesterday and arrived at 945, the queue was already up Litchurch Lane and onto London Road where buses were dropping people off. The bag checks weren't an issue and the general organisation within the site was good with a few digital tickets failing to read but not many. What was an issue was having circa 12,000 people arrive before the opening time of 10am which is a tricky one to manage - I think better organisation of the queue outside of the event would be an improvement.

Once in it was a superb event although we were surprised we could wander around on exposed tracks! We stayed the entire day and could easily have gone back again, a few pics below.

@greensignals have been doing some live broadcasts form there, the recordings of which are on You Tube. Some great interviews including an exceptional one with Yasha Siddiqui a female graduate in engineering working at Alstom.

There was a constant stream of people from the station to the site today, the queue needed stopped though, I think we were in before 10 or very soon after. We also spent all day on site and didn't see everything. Considering the queues for cabs, I'm surprised there wasn't more of a queue for Princes tender rides!
I have no photos which don't have a little man in them.
Surprise of the day was flying Scotsman passing through the station soon after 9 at long Eaton heading for Nottingham.

From what I have seen so far the 150th was better because the stuff on show was moving. I wonder if they even thought about doing that this time?
