XKR 150 - New Purchase
Discussion
Morning all,
Picked up this eBay special yesterday afternoon.
Sticker price £7,500 - 97,000 miles 2006 reg 4.2 150 XKR. Part ex'd a BMW 650I vert 106,000 mile.
Cost to change £3,500. Think I did well with this one, next cheapest XKR vert I can find is coming in around 10k.
Was sold with a 'faulty' roof which just required a manual reset when I got home.

I posted some photos up last night on a XK Facebook forum and some of the comments back were rather funny. Not sure if they were trying to gaslight me or that they really don't know much about these cars. Convinced it was not an XKR because it didnt have 4 exhaust pipes!. I went as far as taking the engine cover off to confirm there was Supercharger written all over the engine and the R badges were present and correct on the guage cluster and steering wheel.

Snagging issues resolved
- Roof unable to retract - manual reset (in the user manual)
- Driver seat reclining too far and not going back to an upright position - seat recalibration with OBDII diagnostic tool (Launch X431)
Snagging issues to resolve
- Couple of minor scuffs/rips in the trims, one caused by the over-reclined driver seat
- Look into why there is a twin pipe instead of a quad exhaust. I think a previous owner may have swapped out the back box from a later facelift X150 XK. It appears to be a stock back box, but the tips appear to be from the later 150 XK which are slightly larger. My working theory is that the XK's are passive and the XKR's are active with the exhaust flaps, so isn't reliant on throttle position and will be 'loud' all the time. It certainly sounds fruity. I will probably return it to a stock backbox or a stainless steel set up at some point.
- Rear vert window coming away very slightly from the cloth in places, will require some gorilla glue esque type repair.

Lovely and congratulations . It will take you a month or two to get to know the car and what it needs in the way of future maintenance as opposed to whats already been done but thats the same for everyone with one of these cars . I am stunned to see the 5.0 tail pipes and if it were me I would be returning that to standard spec . Please keep us all abreast of your progress , I genuinely take my hat off to people like yourself that stick their money where their mouth is and invest in one of these beauties . A bit of sunshine when summer comes and you will be celebrating your good fortune in owning the car .
