Im off in early April to Spain and shall depart the ferry on my motorbike in Santander with intentions of staying somewhere in this general area between valencia and Barcelona. See pic !

I'm.hoping to find a base ( for a week to 10 days ish) and just 'spiders web' out from that base each day riding and exploring without any real goals or agenda.
Any recommendations for routes or more importantly a base? Obviously bike security is a consideration so the more secure parking the better.
Access to restaurants and or bar is essential and not too bothered about price so if anyone has any experience of the area they can share I shall be very grateful

Just started to book a trip for 4 bikes going at the end of May. We’ve decided to ferry, Plymouth to Santander, 4 bikes 4 people and 2 cabins came out £320 each. Only going 1 way.
We intend to spend a few days exploring Pyrenees, Andorra then head home through France.

Sounds good, I did a mini tour of northern France, Luxembourg, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium last year staying in a different place each night but wanted to contrast with having a base to return to each day this time hence looking for any pearls of wisdom about good place to stay.

Can't help the OP, but N260 is meant to be awesome. We did Col du Portalet and Col du Soulor before having an overnight in Lourdes, Col de Peyresourde is meant to be awesome, and we were meant to go from Sort to Vielha via the C-28/C-13 which looks awesome, but threat of snow (in May) forced a re-route. Depending on where you're spending the first night or two, the coastal road from Bermeo to Zarautz is worth the detour.

Would recommend this hotel as a great base , not so far to go either. I wouldn’t recommend bothering to go so far as the coast.

Amazing sweeping roads with next to no traffic , like your own track .

Spanish police were very friendly too wink

Have a look here, may be a few other ideas.

That's a great shout and I think I may use it as a stop over on my return back to rhe ferry. I probably want my base to be a bit closer (within about 100km to 150km)to the coast though so it's just a bit too far inland.
The weather maps suggest a better chance of good weather being closer to the coast as I'm going so early in the season and I want to spend at least 1 day riding the coastal roads between valencia and Barcelona.

Totally agree about the weather , but you will notice that as soon as you hit the region of Valencia , the roads become awful and the traffic increases substantially.
You will be laughing in your helmet as you ride the roads in central Spain , they’re just so good . One day we were hooning along this sweeping deserted road with a number of eagles soaring above .

Could've been golden eagles, or was it griffin vultures? Saw plenty of both last year, but far more of the latter.

I got lost and stuck off-roading solo in Croatia and the vultures were circling above, I took this picture afterwards because I knew none of my mates would believe a word of it. biglaugh
