Lease Return Damage With Santander Consumer and Manheim
Discussion
I've got a Mazda going back in a few weeks. Leased with finance from Santander and they're sending Mannheim to do the collection.
The car has a large alloy scratch near the hub, plus a few other little dents and scratches some of which are within wear and tear some of which I'll probably have to pay for.
I've had previous leases with Arval and they issues a price guide for the expected costs, eg £60 an alloy etc. Santander do not issue a cost list, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience on their pricing on fixing damage?
Having done a lot of reading online and getting a few quote from mobile repair places it seems to me like the costs are probably more expensive to get it done myself, but want to check before doing it.
FWIW here's the alloy that'll need a fix for sure, it's got a chunk missing on the outside and you can see the scar in the middle. There's also the dent attached.

Unfortunately nothing much helpful to add other than I too have a lease car going back to Santander in a few weeks, also has a scuff on the allow spoke, and also asked for a price list for repairs which they say they do not issue, it's whomever collects and processes the car that inspects and prices repairs.
I've checked the fair wear and tear and it seems a scuff anywhere on a spoke falls outwith acceptable. I've decided to chance it and just return it as it is, as I cannot find any idea of what they might charge either.
The dent won't be acceptable wear and tear as it's on a panel crease/swage line which I remember reading is chargeable. I've had those repaired by pointless dent removal guys in the past for £60 or so.

Good to know about pointless dent costs. I saw Arval seem to charge £60 to fix an alloyI've checked the fair wear and tear and it seems a scuff anywhere on a spoke falls outwith acceptable. Cost will vary, but a lot depends on access, and when I've had them done on a wheel arch like that previously my guy has been able to quickly access behind the plastic wheel arch cover and made the job look quick and easy. However, looking at yours again, is the paint broken or can that black mark be removed with some polish?
I've leased several cars over the years and a couple with Santander. Santander used to use BCA as the collection agent and maybe still do.
My advice is do nothing, certainly don't pay to have it fixed yourself, you’ll either get charged and it will be less more likely than not to what you'd have paid or you won't.
The BCA collector was a bit of a dick I had once. It was mid Covid times and he wants keen for me to be anywhere near him or the car, but he signed the inspection form as 'customer agrees with the charges but couldn't sign due to covid'. No I bloody didn't. He didn't go through any of it and tried to charge £60 a pop for two heavily soiled front seat rears. The car had a full valet.
Santander chased and I disputed. They offered me a reduced rate still disputed then they gave up. I've paid BCA on the spot but only had that once but it's never happened again so they've probably stopped that practice.

Thanks for the advice on this. One thing I've noticed is it says 'The wheel rims should be free from dents and holes' I'm trying to work out if the chunk missing from it is a dent or hole or just a chunk missing?! Any insight from you at all?!I've checked the fair wear and tear and it seems a scuff anywhere on a spoke falls outwith acceptable.
