Anyone else being forced to see this on Valentines day? Based on the evidence this is going to be even worse than I think it will be.

1)There has not been a single review, yet it comes out on Thursday.
2)It is going to be available to view on Peacock streaming platform the same day it comes out at the cinema.
3)The whole cast are currently doing promotion for the film in Australia. My partner is Australian and she said they only bother to do that when the film is REALLY bad.
4)It premiered in Australia yesterday, yet again there has not been one review
5)February is the month that movie theatres traditionally use to bury poor films.
6)Other than the trailers, there is not a single video about the film on YouTube, you would at least expect something.

Seems to me that by having a blackout of reviews, going straight to a streaming platform and releasing it on Valentines day they are trying to recoup as much money as they can in the first week or two to recoup as much money as they can before word gets out how poor it is.

Trailer didn't look great tbf.

Didn't much rate Bridget Jones's Baby film either (they changed the story for the film and is actually the 4th book in the series, seemed like a desperate cash in)

I say that as someone who loves the first film and has read all the books.

Maybe I'll give it a go.

I like the first one- more than my lass, actually- but never rated the sequels much. We'll only see this one when I can download it for nothing, I'm afraid. Reviews for it are embargoed until the 12th.

The benefits of having a daughter.

'Are you going to see this with your friends or, hint hint, do you want to go with your Mum rather than me?'

Enjoyed the first film, I think I might have seen the second film once, and a very vague recollection of seeing the third. Not sure what that says about my like of the franchise, but the review I read in the Metro this morning was 5* and said it might be the best of the bunch.

So, I'm intrigued.....

Well, it was just 'meh'. Not truly awful, but not all that either- it just...was. Sentimental and forgettable. Hugh Grant got nearly all what good bits there were and little was truly funny; one or two chuckles, that was about it.

Yes, inclined to agree.

Weirdly pitched I thought. The sad bits were v genuinely sad, such as the monologue with Mark's watch and glasses and the bit with the balloons and yet the 'happy' romantic love interest following with the teacher was so superficial it didn't really justify it. For me it needed a better more sincere and heart felt love story to offset the tragedy. In a way I think I'd have preferred her happy with her friends at the end rather than such a 'convenient' love interest.

Daniel Cleaver v funny.

Overall, film not v good. Shame.

Might go watch the first one again over the weekend to cheer myself up.

A estrogen filled chick flick made for single fat American women
(why else would they film it in a traditional part of London with all the most typical British actors you can get)

I bet they’re all going to watch with their cats as they cry into their tubs of Ben and jerrys on Valentine’s Day, why else would they put it on a steaming service?

(So they can flick their bean to the topless young hunk)

OP - I hope the wife did anal after having to watch it

We saw it last night at the cinema.

Pretty much what you'd expect. Easy watching and mildly amusing in places. I enjoyed it more than the last film I watched at the cinema.

I did find it slightly odd that Bridget looked like she was squinting for a lot of the film, and also had a very strange walk a few times - similar to if she'd just done about 20 shots

There were an awful lot of groups of women at the cinema, I assume because it was valentines they were single. Overhearing their conversations I got the impression they felt some sort of connection to Bridget Jones.

Anyway, I thought it was OK, much better than I thought it would be and Hugh Grant was great.

Not married and yuk, not for me. I did pick up a nice steak in Tesco last week and said 'don't forget to get this for March 14th' and just got the 'well that ain't happening' look.....

Mentioned this observation to my wife as well. Weird head movement thing going on as well. As though playing a parody/exaggerated version of Bridget Jones.

I thought it wasn't getting a release in the States?

I had that problem with the last couple of sequels- she's just never quite recaptured the part, perhaps also just aging out of it; for me, Bridget will always be the younger, heavier and clumsy figure from the first film.

It's streaming-only in the States- on 'Peacock', whatever platform that is.

Just been to see it. Initially apprehensive but thought it was good. Perhaps, being somewhat older, I've now encountered at least one example of each of the types of people that appear in the film, so it's more relateable and, therefore, more funny. Entitled Range Rover woman parking where she shouldn't to drop the kids off at school had the OH and I chuckling as we encounter these irksome pillocks in our street on a regular basis.
