Expected fuel consumption of Black Sam?
Discussion
Hi guys, just a quickie. Can anyone tell what I can expect by way of fuel consumption from my 1600GT x/flow fitted Samuri?
Obviously the engine is a good few years old, but if someone could put me in the ball park it would be much appreciated.
A compression test over the weekend should give me some idea of the engine wear, followed by an oil flush and new oil and another compression test, but no idea of what mpg to expect from the old boy.
Thanks.

if it has a 1600 gt carb 28/36 or 32 dfm or similar these are progressive carbs ie first smaller barrel of carb opens first at small throttle openings and after about 1/2 throttle the second larger barrel comes into play
if you keep it on the smaller barrel 30 should be attainable use that second barrel with a lead foot and will be more like 20 mpg- these estimates with good compression newish plugs points and air filter
the gt when used gently was better in fuel than the non gt 1600 - better carb and exhausting made it flow freer

I can confirm what Sedgy has just said , my 1700 x-flow even allowing for all its fancy bits and bobs will , if you keep it below that all important 3000 rpm, manage well into the 30's on a run , I did Stoneleigh and back (220 miles) on less than 3/4 of a tank!
Push it past the wall at 60-65 and the low 20's becomes all too frequent , towing a trailer full of camping gear 3 up it will manage 25mpg at 55-60.

Thanks again guys. Which means that my LWB Land Rover, now on gas, is probably more cost efficient on fuel than the Sam will be! Not for long though... just bought the front end of an LPG system for the Sam. Just need the tank and multivalve now to be getting the equivalent of around 60 miles for the cost of a gallon of petrol!
When I get chance I will put together an article on lpg systems (as it is my every day job should be able to give you all the required details)but as I say we are very busy so tend to get in late and am usually very tired (could use another phrase but will keep it clean
)so just get in have a shower, eat, briefly sit down then go to bed (but I enjoy my work so its worth it)
Cheers

Cheers
I fitted an LPG kit to my Landie. All very straight forward really. The one I'm fitting to my Black Sam will be made up of bargain bits I'm acquiring via ebay - bit of a mix & match!
Seems complicated at first as there are so many solenoids, fittings, brackets, pipework, etc. But it all goes together logically when you understand what each component does.
