18 year old's self assessment
Discussion
My 18 year old worked in the summer before starting uni and subsequently had tax deducted.
If I do a self assessment for them, to reclaim the tax paid at source, will this mean they have to complete an SA next year?
I assume they need make a declaration in next year to say "I don't need to complete an SA"?
I don't really want to be lumbered with a SA every year for them for the small amount we could reclaim.
Thanks

.....but there is a simple form you can fill in to reclaim the tax without doing a self assessment.
I did this a few years back. (I'm assuming things remain the same).
Fantastic thanks, I had assumed a full SA was required......but there is a simple form you can fill in to reclaim the tax without doing a self assessment.

EDIT: I found the form online and completed. Thx again

On a general point, if you DID complete a self assessment tax return for a certain year and if you can show on that tax return that the source of income that gave rise to the need to submit a tax return was not relevant for the next tax year (e.g. your self employment ceased before the end of the tax year), then there is a box on the return where you show the cessation date.
That, on its own should be enough to prompt HMRC not to require a tax return for the following tax year.
