I read this depressing post on Reddit and thought "this sounds like conspiracy talk"

may not be so far off the mark as you think, but not for the reasons you probably imagine.

So around 2030 we will enter the next solar minimum, this should be ok but because of the ongoing magnetic pole shift, nobody really knows what’s going to happen, NASA has stopped publishing the magnetic shield strength because it quiet frankly doesn’t fit their narrative and it’s weakening is accelerating fast.

Anyway. Long story short, someone is going to have to go in front of the public at this time (late 2020’s early 2030’s) and tell the public net zero hasn’t worked because we have been lied to all along and the environmental problems are caused by the planets magnetic field breaking down due to a natural 12000 year cycle and not cows farthing or cars polluting.

Oh and that cancer everybody you know has, yeah thats caused by the weakened magnetic field letting in radiation from the sun, not cows farting.

Oh and suck it up buttercup, the government isn’t going to rescue you, when the lights go out, you’re on your own.

Just a theory, but I suspect nobody wants to be the one to have to make that announcement, normally a solar minimum shouldn’t be any issue, but with our magnetic field so weakened (40% of what it should be) who knows what damage a wrong solar flare could do, the one last May was only 10% of a carrington event flare, but produced way more aurora than it should have done for a flare of its power.

Tldr nobody wants that job, and they’re all doing their best to make sure there not in charge when the time comes, farrage included,
But it turns out, yeah, it is weakening.

Do we need to be worried?

I think I read an article which said that it will have an impact on human life on earth in about 20,000 years. I wouldn't worry about it right now. There are more pressing issues at the moment.

I fitted a magnetic door catch today and to my surprise it wasn't strong enough to hold the door shut. So yes, magnetism is defo weakening.

Climate crisis
Housing crisis
Cost of living crisis
And now: Magnetism crisis!

My personal magnetism seems to be on the wane.
Young girls avoid me, and I doubt that being old and ugly is the reason.

Well indeed. When I was young the girls all wanted to marry an older man. Now that I'm older, they don't.

Have you tried wearing a T-shirt that says 'I'm fabulously rich'?

Sounds like an opportunity for a new tax. I'm sure the UK govt will be first to adopt such a tax as usual. We have to lead the way!

Sounds legit. Would explain why every man and his dog has had a fantastic display of the Northern Lights last year.

As the Earth's magnetism leaks away into the sky we need to conserve what we have before the tipping point. A magnet tax will be imposed to discourage the wasteful use of magnets.

I suspect EVs are full of magnets to make their motors work. I blame EVs.

biggrin

Maybe this is why there's a VED on EVs this year? Makes sense to me!

I was just reading an old article on the Earth's magnetic flip, and it turns out that it is called the Adams event after Douglas Adams, as it last happened 42,000 years ago.

Here's a short vid about it.

I blame the vegans and the sharp decline in animal magnetism

The animal with the most magnetism is the polar bear - that's why they always end up in the north nuts

Do penguins have the least or are they oppositely polarised?

Opposite. They also have capacitance due to their foil wrappers.

"Without the magnetic field, the solar wind would strip our atmosphere, and the oceans would evaporate and be lost to space. In other words, Earth would end up like Mars."
