Steam controllers
Discussion
I have my gaming PC upstairs and my eldest has started showing an interest in some of the games I have on it. At the moment this means I have to let him sit at my desk to play, which is sometimes inconvenient because my work computer and my Mac are on the same desk, keyboard/mouse and monitor etc.
We have a Nvidia Shield Pro downstairs so I'm looking at setting up Steam streaming (Steam Link?) so he can at least play that way. I started looking at controllers to use with the Shield, seems Valve used to sell a controller but it was pretty expensive. There are now third party alternatives, a new one just came out from Hori but I'm reading some mixed reviews. On the PC itself I use an ancient, wired Xbox 360 controller for games that support game pads and that works fine for the most part. What are the options for controllers to use with Steam streaming, can we use pretty much anything or is there any real benefit in an official or third party specific Steam controller?

Steam link should work with anything PC compatible.
The new Hori "Steam" controller hasn't gotten good reviews and there's lots of solid competition much cheaper.
Original Steam controller is still unmatched for a lot of games because of its twin trackpads and gyro. You can still sometimes find one at a decent price.
Lots of people are hoping for a new Steam Controller 2 soon based on the Steamdeck control set.
