Golf front windows have mind of their own
Discussion
My 2018 Golf has an annoying intermittent bug when attempting to close the front driver or passenger windows, they open/go down rather than up, it happens fairly frequently.
Curious if this is a known issue and what's the root cause and required fix? It's more annoying in the colder months when getting blasted with freezing cold air.

Have you tried re-calibrating them?
Press and hold the down button until the window is fully down and keep holding for 5 secs, then press and hold the up button until fully up and keep holding for 5 seconds.
Mine sometimes need this after they've been iced over in winter, normally sorts it out.

I had the exact same issue on a 2009 Golf and also a 2014 Transporter. Both turned out to be very very dry lower window seals (the ones at the lower window edge). They became quite dry and brittle (and only happened in winter too). When trying to close the windows occasionally, the window would go up half way or so and end up going back down again on its own accord. This is because the window safety system thinks there's something in the way (due to the tight, hard seals), and ends up opening again to prevent taking someone's arm off, even though there's nothing there. I used a silicone based lubricant spray on the window seals with the windows fully opened, and then kept opening and closing the windows 3 or 4 times. Worked a treat.
