Am I about to get scammed? laugh
Mrs is looking at a new car, found the perfect one in a rare colour don’t come up very often so she’s jumped on it.
It’s not a main dealer but a independent, seems legit, done a walk round video of the car so I know it actually exists, cars in the back ground match other stock he has listed on auto trader and building looks same as google maps.
It’s just over 3 hours away and we won’t be able to get down for a couple weeks due to work/other commitments. They deliver for a reasonable price but asked for payment upfront via bank transfer.
Normal and she’s being overly worried?
Thanks

I've done exactly this...
But I did get a click mechanic check done before hand, cost about £150 but confirmed a few key things: 1) the dealer existed 2) the car existed 3) the car was as described

I've bought a couple of cars unseen through independents, each time I've paid a deposit (credit card ideally as covered under S75, must be £100 though) plus had to pay for the delivery in advance and then paid the balance via a bank transfer once its been delivered.

What sort of money are we talking of?
What car is it?
Have you checked with the trader is registered at Companies House and if so how long have they been trading?

Ask for a photo of the V5 and a copy of the HPi report for it.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, all looks legit to me the guy on the walk round was video was perfect, but I’m the opposite of her and have zero worries about anything ever so thought I’d ask.

She’s had a chat with the dealer since whoes agreed she can pay on arrival of the car but pays for delivery upfront so she’s much happier now.

It’s an Abarth 595 comp in ‘Adrenaline Green’, pocket change I know compared to the PH powerfully built but is a lot for her. Her Astra VXR died after 11 years of ownership just before Xmas so she’s over excited to get this laugh

If you pay £101 of it on your credit card it will give you a bit more protection.

Just post a photo of it when it arrives!

Good fun choice

If you can't spare the time to get there to have a look at the car before handing over the money, what's going to happen if / when the car has any issues post sale? I doubt the dealer will be too keen to do a 6hr round trip no matter how much sales of goods you quote. I know buying unseen / click & collect is becoming normalised and on a new car, ok... but anything a bit special and used, I'd really want to get eyes on it and drive it myself before committing. You'd hate to see the wife's excitement fade if the car turned up with issues. Granted, it might be perfect and have no issues but I don't know, not sure I could.

Don’t be so bloody silly. It’s recipe for disaster and you’ll end up be needing to deal with a massive headache. Walk away and step over the dogs dirt

Suppose it depends on circumstances. I took a gamble buying my XKR off a guy on the Jag forum. Trusted my gut as he was a regular user of the forum. £500 deposit down and I booked a flight from Glasgow to Exeter, worked out in the end.

Anybody near to the dealer prepared to give it a look over?
If it's north west Scotland I'll pop over!

Bought a car before Christmas, sort of unseen, had spoken to the private seller a couple of times on the phone. Offer accepted, needed a deposit to secure, paid £1K and arranged to get it delivered. Did actually get the chance to view after the deposit and before it was delivered though.

Glen - where is the car? As above, if someone on here lives down the road from it I'm sure that would help.

Whenever I’ve bought a long distances sight unseen car I’ve paid a deposit and transferred the balance when the car was delivered and I was happy. Never had any dramas.

^^ If you're going to do it, that's the way to do it. At least it's only your deposit at risk.

It’s near Hereford, looks pretty immaculate on pics, HPI came back clear, no advisories on past MOT’s only done 12k miles by one owner, I’m pretty confident it’s a nice one. It’s being delivered Thursday I think so il update with pics (or not) and either good or bad news! laugh

Appreciate the offers of looking over it for us beer

Well i said I’d give an update and…. It’s here! I say it, it’s now a ‘he’ called Luigi so the mrs tells me laugh

Arrived his morning on a truck and as far as I can tell its pretty immaculate, it’s raining (as usual) so not the best time to check it out but its all looks good, lots of life in the brakes/tyres etc looks almost like a brand new car, very happy with it and the service.

Oh and some pics;

That is great and I love it.
You certainly won't lose it in a car park!

Just change the rubber mats for some nice carpet mats and all sorted

Those seats look divine, I bet they're lovely to sit in.

All you need now is some 15" winter wheels and tyres to deal with the potholes and curbs smile

They are nice, sit ‘in’ them rather than on them, do feel firm though not sure what they’ve be like after a long trip which we wont really be doing in it anyway tbh.

It sounds much better than I expected as well, got the monza exhaust on it sounds quite fruity but press the sport button the valves open and it’s really quite a deep roar, Im smitten with it myself laugh
