1 month in London - is AirBNB my only option?
Discussion
Hi All,
As i try and stem my medical problems i'm going to get some treatment in London for around about 3.5 weeks , given I'm as north as England as you can get, and the treatment is expensive, i'm trying to figure out how I can cut my costs on accomodation . i need to be near Regent street and not much travel as i might be quite sick from the treatment.
I'll probably need kitchen facilities, but maybe not, its easy to have cereal for breakfast, find a sandwich bar for lunch and maybe healthy takeout for tea. as long as i can make tea and coffee.
i tried booking.com and it looks a nogo for hotels and things on there,
AirBnB is showing some options cheaper than hotels, i've never ever used AirBnB though.
any PH's know of other sites/ possibilities etc etc that may be just specific to london or niche that might fit the bill
TIA PHers!
I mean it's hideously expensive round there anyway, which is unfortunate. Do the place you are being treated not have options/contacts for recovery housing at all?
There are places that do short term rents (usually 30% more than standard lettings), or hotels that do discount extended stays (maybe 10% off - you'd need to go direct) and obviously serviced apartments but they're usually very expensive in the city.
In all honesty they'll all likely be more expensive than an airbnb even in that kind of area.
If you can manage being in a cab you might find that being a couple miles/20 mins north might save you a fair bit but then you obviously have those uber costs to add.
Good luck with it and I hope all goes well.

thanks tiktak...... cabs might be a good idea - being up here in the sticks we dont have many options for cab companies and no uber. but i imagine london would have plenty of options and i'd know the times of day needed, so can plan. i might extend my radius a bit - and do some uber checking for prices as i further out, 'v' savings i might make on the accomodation. You don't mention timing so this suggestion might not work - but you could consider student accommodation. Quite a few of the Universities offer up student halls rooms commercially when the students are off. Here's an example at London Met:

Wishing you all the best with your treatments. You sound in a similar position to us (but a few years ago) and the accommodation costs can be a bit scary.
I second the taxi/uber thing. It's not going to be difficult to set up something regular with a driver so you don't have to pay the crazy prices in the centre.

You can enquire on AirBNB to do a deal for longer term rental.
We have a few repeat guests who do it 'off the books" to avoid paying fees.
Looking on AirBNB the cheapest will be a room in a the host's house.
They are normally chilled people who understand if you want privacy.
Expect to pay £100 min maybe nearer £140 per night.
Check the reviews carefully.

I hope this helps ..
The Elizabeth line has a station very near Regent St (Bond street, but use the exit at the NE corner of Hanover Square).
The Elizabeth line is pretty smooth, air conditioned and fast, so you could perhaps get out to a cheaper area as quickly as a shorter journey on a different line.
It does get busy though.
I hope that your health improves

If you're being treated by a hospital, some will have accommodation, probably aimed at patients' relatives, but.... Either way, your consultant will probably had patients with this issue before and may have suggestions. Failing that, if there's a support group/charity for your condition, they may be able to help.
Best of luck with the treatment.

A friend I worked with has a couple. Elephant and castle for £190 before negotiating. For a top floor apartment two bed type place.
Then what looks like a ground floor apartment pictured above that looks like £50 or less a day.
You can DM or reply if you want more detail. I haven’t seen said work friend for a while but we had a catch up a month or two ago on phone. He is a good host and cook and teaches cooking as a sideline to his IT career.

Can you walk to/from Bond Street? Somewhere less upmarket along the Elizabeth Line might be more affordable. A decent central London hotel for a month including Easter feels like the best part of ten grand (based on people visiting from overseas for work)
If you’re able to do the walk, then you could potentially stay in the Slough Travelodge for the whole of April for £1500, a weekly travelcard is £113 apparently, though there might be cheaper options. No doubt there’s more suitable accommodation somewhere nearer on the Elizabeth Line, but I guess it’s somewhere to start This maybe a useful link - https://www.lshtm.ac.uk/study/new-students/accommo... even though you are not a student or academic some of the links included may be ok.

https://www.chevalcollection.com/ maybe an option?
£400+ a night, or are you seeing different prices? That’s what I’d expect in central LondonThis place has a couple of single rooms with tea/coffee making facilities.

Have people read this? I haven't got a solution for the OP, but I know it's not Slough. This being PH, I'm amazed no one has come forward yet to volunteer the use of their Central London pied de terre.
Thanks everyone for all in the input - some great links and info there. always amazed people giving their time to post - thankyou!
not visiting / or ever really lived in london much it can be tricky to know about underground links and time it takes on them - so its good to get some knowledge and tips about that too - many thanks.
i'm going to get in touch with the clinic and see about what options they have heard of, and also perhaps see if i can delay the treatment by 3 weeks to be post the easter hols. i can only ask!!!!! at least it might give me more options when london is less full.
