I'm seeing this more and more. There on the team page is the owner's pooch with a job title: Head of Barkingting, Security, Mental Health Executive, etc..

On the one hand, it's harmless fun, adds a bit of personality.

But on the other, is it getting a bit over done?

Not the argument of the day, I know, but what do you think?

I was disappointed when I went to look at a new car and the dog who was part of the meet the team page wasn't there, I love meeting new hounds.

But to your point in a smaller family run type business I think its ok, bit of fun etc

What a life for the pooch - they get to go into an office and be fussed over by loads of staff and visitors. Much better than having them cooped up home alone.

Think you are being a little grumpy........bad week ? jester . In reality I think it depends on what sector the website is targeting...if its large corporate business/public sector etc then I think it looks slightly unprofessional. If the website is aimed towards selling B to C then it's part of the back story and projects a friendly image of the business,

I'm not that bothered by it. I have a Staffy, but wouldn't put him on the Meet the Team page. That's reserved for my nom de guerre.

Not at all! Was just thinking of adding mine to my site and wanted to gauge a feel for how it's seen.

Dogs are great, much rather see a pooch on there than some LinkedIn user's marketing wonk.

Personally - unless it's a related field ie grooming, dog toys etc I think it looks very unprofessional

What next? Dressing your toddler up and adding them to the website as employees.

Highly unprofessional and is basically turning your company into Facebook trash, as every user there either has a pic of their out-of-control Staffy or feral kid as their profile pic.

'Meet the team' pages are pointless fluff anyway. They serve no purpose. Nobody cares that John Smith got his degree in 1975, has worked in the industry for 50 years and enjoys playing badminton in his free time.

People who dislike such content seem to care an awful lot.

There are a lot more commuting dogs than there used to be. Dogs were a rare sight in the rush hour in London, now its surprising if I dont see one. So guess they'll appear more on websites etc

Much depends on the nature of the business.

For smaller, more personable businesses, staff bios can be very persuasive conversion tools.

When it comes to SEO, particularly for "your money, your life" (YMYL) businesses that need to establish strong E-E-A-T (expertise, experience, authority, trust) signals, when done well, then bios can really help smaller businesses rank well above bigger / stronger sites for YMYL topics.

More often than not, however, bios aren't done well.

When purchasing anything I just want the facts, no fluff

I don't care who your team is - frequently with inappropriate pictures more likely to deter a purchase - I certainly don't care about your dog, cat, kids...
