Is there any reason to fit Iridium plugs vs the std platinum plugs on the early V12?

Not saying for certain, however, the engine might not deal well with the iridium tips and could be why the heavier tipped platinums are used.

Case in point - The LS (LS3) engines used in Chevrolet (Corvettes in my case), ate iridium tips clear off the plugs. Here too, engine specced a non iridium tip plug. Some (like me) tried them...no joy.

Here is an example of one plug I pulled from an LS3, compared to a new plug. These had about 10K miles. There were two others in the series like this one. Once the tip is gone, gap immediately increases from .040" to .080".

Just to echo Skhannes, but also if you start causing your DB9 to misfire you run the risk of blowing the lining out of the cat above the exhaust manifold.
