Thinking about a laptop and it needs to be a small portable device I can take just about anywhere - main function will be editing backing up and mailing digital photos. Needs built in wireless.

So far I'm looking at the tosh libretto U100 - looks like a top bit of kit.

Anyone got one / used one / got any comments on this or similar micro laptops?

I've just ordered a Dell X1, which is a re-badged Samsung Q30. It's not as small as the Libretto, but only weighs just over a kilo, and has a 1280x768 12.1" widescreen.

Incidentally, I have one of the original Librettos, a 70CT, still in full working order!

The original Librettos are still heavily sought after. I've been trying to buy a 110CT on Ebay for a while, and they seem to go for well over £200 with a few accessories (I lost one which went for £241 last week).

£200? I should hope so! My 70CT cost £1,400 back in 1998!

Yes, but a 7 y/o PC is normally scrap! They're only 133MHz P1s, after all.

Tsk, you youngsters. I have a 20Mb (yes, *mega*byte) disk which I use as a doorstop in my study. It's about the size of a shoebox and weighs 10 kilos or so.

all v interesting chaps - thanks for the tip alex will check out the dell (used to work for em aeons back and they do make decent kit usually)...

Still fancy the tosh though - just looks v cute.

HAving said that I found this too - SOny U70

www.theregister.co.uk/2004/05/10/sony_micro_pc/

Which could do the job too - not sure about the tablet format though, think I'd probably wreck it in a matter of days - oh and no keyboard either....

We threw one away just last year!

We have another 110CT sitting in the house doing pretty much bugger all. Never realised they were that popular - why? They are desperatly slow, heavy laptops...

If anyone's interested I could be persuaded to part with my Libretto 70CT Comes complete with all accessories, 2 new batteries and a network/modem card.

Raising funds for the sports exhaust on the GTV, which reminds me: I need to stick my RoadPilot in the classifieds...

Pah, the first PC I had at work with a hard-disk had a 10MB drive. At the time we wondered why anyone would ever need so much space!

P.S. Superb collection of previously owned cars, Zumbruk.

It would have been a superb collection if I'd kept them.

I have a Dell X1 and it's great apart from how hot it gets. Makes it unusable as a "lap" top. I still miss the Sharp MM1110 I used till it started eating expensive 1.8" hard drives, that was a joy for basic usage. I'm still on the hunt for something as light and convenient.

We were going to use X1's here, but when we got one and found to our cost that it didn't have a PCMCIA slot, we had to ditch it.

We went to a D410 which is supurb bit of kit - albiet not as small as we'd like.

Update: Dell took over a week to acknowledge my order (no e-mail, nothing), and then tried to sign me up for a lease purchase that I didn't ask for (this is a business purchase, the regulations are much less strict), so I told them to shove it.

I now have a Sony VAIO S5VP on order. A bit pricier, but it is a MUCH better spec.

I'll stick a review up here if anyone is interested?
