Ok so I need to get a large estate car for commuting and general hauling duties.

Needs to be relatively economical and comfortable as I’ve a 20 mile each way commute. I also often do a weekend trip down to Cornwall and back to visit elderly relatives. (380 miles each way from here)

Would like a larger estate rather than something small.

Needs to be able to tow 2000kg as I have a large caravan that occasionally needs dragging about and I don’t want an suv.

Budget as cheap as possible ideally £5-6k not scared of high miles but want something that will last a few years. Bonus points for a 3l litre engine.

Current favourites are Audi A6 avant and Mercedes e class estate. Is there anything else worth looking at?

I'd have thought a Volvo would be worth looking at.

The words estate and Volvo go hand in hand!
Alternatively a Skoda Superb
Is a Passat too small as plenty to choose from?

On top of the normal Superb/V90/5-series/E-class suggestions...
  • Chrysler 300C CRD Wagon
  • Jaguar XF Sportbrake
  • Mazda 6 Tourer

I'm a year into a kia optima. similar size to superb etc.. loaded with kit. comfortable but not engaging at all. I'd love to chop it in but it works well and has every option I could want. 150k miles and still feels and sounds solid. *just noticed towing needs, not sure if it fits that bill
