Well its been around 8 blistfull weeks in the Merak so far...

lost oil pressure due to sender being u.s cost £40 and 2 sleepless nights
air filter £80
oil filter £8
oil £22
oil cooler pipes £110
plugs £8
plug leads £80
clutch £2000 ish (gose in next week :(
gear link bushes £60
Carb rebild kits £50
hose clips and bits and bobs £20
exhaust (Ansa sports) £900
personal plate £400 (bargin 328 ferari number)

jobs still to do, air con service £100, head light rams £270 (very slight leak but work fine) head lamp switch (slight leak) £240 adjust cam chains (££??)

I thought I had a good buy, low owners, 14k miles from new, imaculate but so far unreliable, mainly I think due to lack of use by the previouse owner. I just hope things get better or are all maseratis like this with things always needing doing ?

Ouch

Who's looking after it for you?

Bill Mcgrath seems to be the top place for older Maseratis.

do all my own servicing, rebuilding carbs ect ect. The car was maintained by Mcgrath and going back to them on the 10th for a clutch. I hope its not a continual spend at this level, I hope I`ve coverd all the small problems now and it will only need servicing for a few thousand miles...but so far worth every penny...

Your Choice of Car is Wonderful but sometimes the servicing can raise the eyebrow's !

Every time I see my car I start wearing the Rose Tinted glasses !

But.... My Maserati's are a real pain in the Backside (see previous threads)
But they are still such amazing cars.

Hope your bills reduce in size soon.

To be honest, the low mileage could well be part of the problem. Most cars don't appreciate sitting around not being used, so hopefully yours will be fine with a bit of fettling....then make sure you use it.

Still, it must raise your pulse (and a smile) every time you see it.

Keep us posted.

Not even a new car is hassle free. Now you put it right it should be fine for a while. (Fingers crossed, touch wood e.t.c.)

Now go out and enjoy the car
