One-off investment advice/Portfolio construction
Discussion
Having had some good fortune in business, I am now in the position where, appropriately managed, I should have enough loot to see the missus and me through to the promised land! Mid-40s, no kids to worry about and none planned.
I've been doing some reading and have probably persuaded myself that paying a percentage annually to an investment manager is unlikely to generate significantly better returns (if not under-perform) than a portfolio made up of a few well-chosen tracker funds and the like. I don't like the idea of leaking X% per annum, forever, regardless of how the portfolio is doing.
In order to ensure that all bases are covered and I'm also investing in the right "type" of funds (ETFs, index funds, etc, etc, its all Greek to me) I'd like to engage an investment advisor to provide a one-off recommendation as to how best to structure an investment portfolio and the timeline over which to make the investments. This could naturally be followed up with reviews in future, which I'd again be happy to pay for at the appropriate time.
Some will be invested through pension, some out of cash reserves.
Has anyone done similar, how did it go, and do you have any recommendations? I'm based in Edinburgh if that makes a difference, but happy to work with someone at a distance.
