Just bought an FK8 and utterly love it. Couldnt get on with the Yaris as it was just way too cramped for my 6"4 frame. Seat position was too high and the seats were not that comfy. Civic has a much nicer interior IMO and the seats are spectacular.

FK8 is an absolute animal, the way it can chomp into a road is unbelievable. You do have to watch the throttle in wet/cold conditions but when its warm I cant see how anyone would want more performance of B roads.

I looked at both and ended up with a left field choice - a Clubsport S.

I liked both the GR and the Type-R. But as above, the seating and interior on the GR isn't great. And I struggle with the looks of the Type-R. The Clubsport S is pretty rabid on the road too, and I liked the "under the radar" element.

Bottom line? Both GR and Type-R are great cars and only seeing them in flesh and driving them will enable you to choose the one that suits you.
Happy shopping!

I am a short arse so luckily that shouldn't be a problem for me

I have sat in a GR and didn't really notice the seat height how everyone mentions, was expecting it to be much worse. The GR, compared to my current M Lite, felt special - Am i correct in assuming the Type R feels more raw and special compared to the GR? Heard the gear box feels more mechanical and better too?

Did the GR not eat up B roads like your Type R?

Gearbox is really good in the FK8, you're not getting better anything this side of a Porsche GT3/4. Personally I'd say the Civic feels much more special and its enjoyable when you aren't also firing it down a B road. Having the adaptive dampers really gives the Civic a better operating window than the GR.

I found the GR huge fun at the limit but you had to drive at ludicrous speeds to actually enjoy it. When pottering around it just felt like a Yaris.

I found the same when I tested both. Yaris is only fun at ten tenths and by then that's silly speeds for the road. Drive it normally it's a Yaris and has barely any boot space. The FK8 felt special everywhere and it piles on speed in a way I didn't think possible for a FWD. I'd had high powered FWD's for years and thought they didn't have much more to go and was dead set for RWD/4WD. Drove the FK8 and was fantastic. I only didn't get one because work moved and I needed to look at houses. Got that, went GR86 (keeper) and inherited a Swift for daily duties which will be replaced by an FK8/FL5 when the time comes. As a 2 car garage, I wouldn't need anything else.
