In August, we will be driving back from the Austrian Alps to the UK. With a stopover at Europa Park in Rust, Germany, our next destination, 2 days later is Roermond, Holland.

Leaving Rust, we're looking for a nice driving route and place to stay that will take us roughly halfway on day one:

Current options are:

Saarbruucken - https://www.esplanade-sb.de/en/
Saarlouis - https://lamaison-hotel.de/en/

Although both hotels look lovely with Michelin starred restaurants, neither town looks super appealing.

Another option is Luxembourg, but we prefer smaller towns.

Any recommendations en route or even off route welcomed.

If you want to go that way, via the Eifel Region, which is nice, then maybe Trier, or somewhere like Cochem, Cross a bit into Luxembourg to fill the tank

Otherwise head up the 61 autobahn and nip along the Rhein around Bacharach for a scenic trip

Thanks for that but should add that we did that route along the Rhein and stopped in Bacharach which was lovely. Looking at a different way home this year. Also, SWMBO will not stay in anywhere with net curtains, pine panelling or anything vaguely 80s shabby chic 🤣

Routes wise, you may wish to check out motorradstrassen.de, which is a combination of great roads over Germany.

Currently sat having breakfast at the Hotel Seegarten on Sorpsese, which I think will meet your accommodation requirements too
