Son is an idiot - 84mph in Temp 50
Discussion
So as the title suggests my son dropped the bombshell that he received an NIP this week detailing his excessive speed on a Cornish dual carriageway.
84mph in a temporary restricted 50mph zone and was caught by a mobile unit which was around a blind bend just after the start of the restriction - sneaky but he is bang to rights.
It’s his first offence and he has been driving eight years and in searching around he either gets a ban or six points and both will come with a fine based on his weekly earnings.
I read that the ban means he would not get any points but insurance in the future may prove more difficult as he would have to state he had been banned - is this the case? I am also a bit worried that his current insurer (Admiral) may cancel his policy when he informs them of the outcome.
If anyone can offer advice and whether it is worth getting legal help in cases like this as his insurance seems to be high anyway due to his diabetes.
Thanks

It was a few years ago now but my other half was captured on a static camera doing 73 in a temporary 50. She was given a SAC option - I’m assuming because it was late in the evening and the workforce wasn’t present. I know this is unrealistically optimistic but it’s always worth looking at the specific circumstances.

I seem to remember when I was diagnosed with type 1 and my licence went to 3 year medically restricted, the difference was £20-£30. Back then they did ask what the reason for the restriction was, but I can't remember the last time I was asked. I haven't run any quotes without the restricted licence to compare but I really don't think it's a big deal.
To be fair though, the risk of impairment through low blood sugar whilst driving is real and I certainly don't resent paying a little more (if I do).

Does it matter?
I wish more people would abide by speed limits.
Well I wish more speed limits were higher. So I guess our views cancel each other out.I wish more people would abide by speed limits.
