Hi Everyone. Newbie here
I am at my wits end. I have a lovely, immaculate Aston Martin DB9 2008. Love the car to bits. The sound system is absolutely terrible. I’m not absolutely certain which system it is but I can honestly say it’s the worst audio I have ever heard in any car I have been in. So much so that I am convinced there is something wrong with it. I can hear / feel absolutely nothing from the subwoofer (between the rear seats) I have to have the Bass set to top level and even then, it sounds like someone is singing from a baked bean can. My local Aston Martin garage have said there is nothing wrong but I am not convinced.
Any help would be appreciated before I get into lots of money upgrading everything.
I am now at the stage where either the sound system goes or the car goes.
Please help if you can.

You should be able to feel the bass speaker in the rear centre?

If not the amp is faulty, but speak to Mcgurks, they have an auto electrician who can fit a separate amp just for that bass speaker to get it to work.

After that the rear centre bass speaker could be old and the foam knackered, I fitted a new one, not from AM but aftermarket bass speaker that works miles better.

Thanks for the reply.
I can feel absolutely nothing from the speaker between the rear seats.
Are they easy to replace if faulty?

Maybe a wire has fallen off. But IIRC - I'm not a car hi-fi boff - isn't there a 'sub' setting as opposed to 'bass'?

I don't know where you are in the UK but Car Audio Security did a great job on my DB9.

Thanks for the replies. I’m not too technically minded with car audio but I do know good sound. The sound in my Aston is the worst I’ve ever heard in a car which makes me think there is something wrong.
Before I get a complete upgrade costing thousands I just wanted to check everything is working as it should be. I believe it is just the “bog standard” kit I have in mine.
I intended to have another look today.
Thanks guys, I’ll let you know what happens.

You don't have to spend thousands a straight speaker upgrade improved it no end, I did upgrade the amp later & that really made the difference.

I think it was £1350 fully fitted that was afull Focal set up including the 8 inch subwoofer & amp.

Thanks for that ZX1OR NIN
What speakers did you upgrade too? Did you do it yourself?
I visited my Aston dealership and tried one of my music discs in another DB9 just to prove to myself there was nothing physically wrong with my set up. There isn’t and both systems sound terrible.
I am now at the point where I really need to upgrade.

Something is wrong with your stereo...

I have a 2006 Volante. The system is powerful enough to be clear at 140Km/h with the top down. Sounds great rolling around town. Of course my ears have survived a lifetime of motorcycles, shooting and 5 kids, so YMMV!

I replaced them with Focal replacements, I had them fitted by CAS, it was an instant improvement.

Does your audio system say Premium when you switch it on? If not it the standard version which is rubbish. See the Frequently Asked Questions wiki at top of page

No, it’s the standard and you’re right, it’s rubbish.
