A little bird told me that UK Harley dealers are to be advised against selling any unregistered bikes they have in stock.

With the current Trump import levy debacle looking likely to make new Harleys in the EU 25% more expensive, a 10% import duty from the UK instead becomes much more appealing.

Don't ask me the full financial/legal details, that's all I know so far.

That's what I'd have thought. Otherwise the container ships just call in Southampton for a coffee and a passport stamp then set off for Europe again and Bob's your uncle; UK not US tarriffs...

Hmm, not sure if that is a good or bad thing for the second hand market.

I just bought a 2020: 1200 Iron from a friend of mine for very sensible money because the Southampton Harley Dealership closed and he decided to move to a Triumph.

Something to do with duty already having been paid when they came into the UK, that's why they will still need to pay 10% going in to the EU from the UK.

Not quite. Import duties/tariffs are set by the country into which they're being imported - not from where they're being exported. If the UK sets an import tariff then the price will go up. Any bikes in the UK before the date from which the tariff comes into effect are unaffected.

But from what you've stated it seems like HD UK are trying to pull a bit of a swifty by waiting for the UK to set a tarrif so they can increase prices due to tariff and increase the price on the bikes already in the UK before the tariff takes effect....

Does the UK already have a 6% tariff on motorcycles above 250cc? And the USA has a 2.4% import tariff?

I know very little about Harleys or there history but were they not saved in the 80's when Regan imposed huge tariffs on Jap imports. Now this has came full circle, and your typical aged Harley rider in the US doesn't want the new era models I really can't see them lasting much longer, or at least in Europe.

The price of their range and accessories is already eye wateringly expensive in the midst of a second cost of living crisis in as many years, and I'm making a leap here having never ridden one, but the bikes aren't exactly suited for European roads or our climate. That said, Harley riders do seem to be blindingly loyal to the brand, I always feel like I'm talking to a Mason when I speak to an owner.

Ride and enjoy it! It could all end tomorrow anyway, on an individual or mass world event.
