Luton drivers lacking common sense as well as insurance

BBC Look East spent a day alongside Bedfordshire Police who were targeting uninsured drivers in Luton.
The driver of a Range Rover Sport is pulled over and has his car seized for no insurance. The now car-less driver gets his wife to come and collect him but her car isn't insured either so that car is also seized. The driver returns later in a Range Rover driven by a friend to remonstrate with the Police for seizing both his cars. Unfortunately for him, his friend's Range Rover was also uninsured and the Police seized that too.
In total, 43 drivers were stopped during the day for not having valid insurance.

In our Ops room was a feed from ANPR cameras dotted round our area. Photos pinged up very regularly. Trouble is there were a lot so to deal with them all would tie up way too many officers, adding to the calls to leave motorists alone and catch burglars!
I now wait for the anti police brigade to comment.
Regarding Range Rovers, a friend bought a new one last year. Not the Sport but top of the range. He got quotes of £5k+ from insurers. Lives in Southeast. He asked why the cost and was told so many were being stolen and high cost of repairs. He managed to find cheaper but not by much. It wasn't used as a Chelsea Tractor, he did long distances, enjoyed shooting, visiting out of the way places. Not quite greenlaning though.

The system can automatically detect and fine speeders easily enough, why doesn't it work that way for the uninsured? Same for illegal plates.Simpo Two said:
