It would very much depend on the type of cancer. I assume you're willing to travel, but bear in mind that cancer treatment is physically demanding so you'll have to think about finding somewhere to stay for the ill person and visitors.

AFAIK re breast cancer the Royal Marsden in London is the place to go. The only difference you'll find with private treatment is that the food is better and there is no one to talk to (ie private rooms).

If the person undergoing treatment requires surgery then they will likely be better cared for in the NHS should it go tits up as few (if any) private hospitals have intensive care units. They have to call an ambulance

Good luck.

I am coming out of the other side of this, Dad has Small Cell Lung Cancer.

He went through Blackpool Victoria Hospital, they have spent a small fortune on a new Cancer center there and it seems to have worked (touch wood).

The other main place in the NW is Christies, but you do have to be referred. A work collegue is undergoing treatment there for bowl cancer (he was diagnosed with it a week last monday and went in the following friday. Not bad. Pity they have just found 2ndry infection in the liver.

If you want to know any more, mail me offline.

Hah! I got my own cheerleader!

If you need any advice, albeit limited by the fact that my cancer days are a bit behind me, I will be only too glad to give it. I am so glad Claire's dad seems to be getting better, and Claire, you don't owe me anything, I am only too glad to help.......

With your particular problem, I would agree that for lung the best place is probably the Royal Marsden Hospital, which has sites in Sutton and Chelsea. I think the site in Sutton is a bigger place, and has a greater concentration of cancer specialists...... Good luck to you.

Good luck to you chap.

My mum is going through chemo at the moment for a couple of small lumps in her stomach. So far the treatment is good and she's responding well (about half-way though now).

She's had it all done on the NHS and the treatment, care and dedication of the staff she has been involved with has touched us all. Amazing bunch of people.

Try this:

www.mayoclinic.com/findinformation/diseasesandconditions/list.cfm?alpha=c

Mayo Clinic would be worthy of consideration if travel costs were not an issue.

I have heard that people travel globally to their Doctors.
