It's one of the greatest, most responsive, most charismatic, most exciting engines ever put in a road car. I even like the way it looks! Though I prefer the original silver and black cam cover to the red one on my Sagaris.

I love the way it's rough till about 5000 revs then just pours on the power with ever increasing intensity. I love the way it makes different noises through the rev range. Most modern cars don't. With an S6 your barely need the rev counter, you can judge the revs purely by sound. The T350 I had sounded wonderfully similar to an ferrari 400 v12 at lower revs. It's quite different in the Sagaris which is more growly, more animalistic which somehow suits the car but I don't prefer the noise. An unsilenced S6 is enough to raise the hairs on the back of the neck and snap them clean off!

Either way I love the S6. Its the reason I bought a TVR.

There are enough anti S6 threads here. This thread is for S6 fans only please!

Yes I have to say it does sound wonderful. When I was picking up my car the dealer said a lot of people want a V8, but at the moment the current chassis range will only fit the Speed Six. He said people wanted an 8 because of the sound.

Now perhaps I am just being boring, but someone please tell me how an 8 is going to sound better than a Speed Six?

I should add that I have had 3 Six Cylinder Cars in the past and 1 V8 and non of them sound like the Speed Six.

I was driving back from a northern town last night ( on a private road ). I was in forth at about 3.5k and the Six sounded nicely 'packed'- a really meaty throb.I love that gear and that state-just a flex of the ankle when the lesser kit moves aside and you blast past on a rising wail that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.Glance in the mirror afte a second or two-specks on the horizon. Job done-settle back to solid sonics and enjoy the supple ride and effortless stability.

I agree.

The noise changes through the rev range and the screamy howly banshee noise you get as you approach full chat is quite intoxicating. I love it.

Ok maybe 'lumpy' would be a better description. It all comes together and pulls sweetly over 5000 though. It gathers momentum through 4000 revs and all the various noises and vibrations seem to start pulling together above 5000 and it's definitely smoother at higher revs than low down. That's been the case with the three S6 cars I've had and that's just the way I like it!

The throttle response above 5 never ceases to amaze. It's the classic S6 trick isn't it? To demonstrate the engine, take up the slack with a half throttle until 5 then boot it!

Great bottom ends are always at the expense of great top ends! Viper, RV8, original Ferrari testarossa, 550 Maranello.... all amazing pull away in 5th type of cars but all a bit wheezy up top!

hhmmm, might have to take a run in Sagaris for a test drive. My Red Rose engine is certainly very peaky but smooth all the way from idle and not lumpy as such. I'm sure my engine on 16000 miles from it's full re-build in 2001 is maybe a little different (ie down a little bhp) from a later spec S engine...I was told the cam profiles are the same (albeit hollow v solid camshafts) but if yours is a little rough under 5Krpm then maybe that's not the case along with bigger valves?

cheers

My speed six is more of a love hate relationship I love it when she goes but I hate it when I have to pay for a rebuild. Which I have just had to...

I cannot be @rsed bashing the engine as it has been done to death. I think I will go and cry some more. I'm just so happy I put money aside. Happy motoring ;-)

What a suprise-a rebuild story on a positive Speed 6 thread.

Can I suggest you post elsewhere-there is TONS of room.

Sideways. Was I being negative? Nope I didnt think so. It was a mere quip. I love my SP6 I also have a love hate relationship with it. I was merely just sharing my 50P worth, it is after all an SP6 engine forum and the title of the thread was I love the speed 6 which I replied to.

Can I suggest that you leave me to post where I like. Cheers fella that's awfully nice of you...

Well, I don't think I really need to post, yet again, my feelings towards the S6, but I will!!!! I love it!!

I bought my Tam early last year, and, tbh, after reading the Tuscan forum at the time, I thought it would be only a matter of time before my engine went pop, but I have always kept £5K free, just in case.
But, it's still going strong, without even a hint of impending doom! I use it almost every day, both Sunday and yesterday, it spent most of the time outside in torrential rain, it started up stright away, as usual, and was, as usual faultless on the way home. Unlike the 4.5 Chim I had (which I loved), I find the acceleration always amazing, past 5K revs, it's truly ballistic, in town, its a kitten, couldnt ask for more!
I have the money set aside if the worst happens, and if it does, I will simply book it into TVR Power, and have it upgraded to a 4 litre, for the same cost, but even if it does go bang, I swear I have had my money's worth from the sheer enjoyment already. the car has plenty of soul, and the heart of that is the utterly fantastic S6

Sorry to others, but I can't post anything negative about the S6, as I have had no negative experiences with it, just theme park ride's level of fun, on a daily basis!

(Tamora 3.6, 19000 miles, never failed to start once, never failed to excite once)

Yep, I'm all about shouting about the merits of the S6 too, oh

I bought my Cerb after a whole bunch of advice and research, and after driving the 8s, because I loved it's characteristics both performance wise and aurally.

I was also aware that as a 99 model it was right in the danger zone for potential problems and like many others I decided to budget accordingly. The car's been at Autocraft for over 3 months now (God knows, Ash must have the patience of an angel )and I'm missing her terribly - simply can't wait to get back behind he wheel.

I'm convinced that I made the correct decision (for me) and think the S6 powerplant is unique amongst it's peers - in fact, don't think it has any peers!

Eyes open, foot down, enjoy

Sideways, No apology needed at all...

I get my car back next week. My Tuscan is my first TVR. I've been driving M Power BMW's for the last 7 years. As much as I loved the peaky M's I love the way that the SP6 power builds and then you get past 4K on the Revs and then it surges again, and you think wooaaah. That second power surge is just sensational.

I love the S6 too .. I really like the fact that it's torque is higher up the rev range that the RV8 - making it a better (safer) drive in poor conditions..
