Silencer Box Repacking

Hi everyone,

I do have a ZX12R but this request for help is about my car and I thought you guys would be best to ask especially those who track their bikes.

I need to try and get the dB level lower than 103

The silencer boxes have plenty of space for packing.

My question is -

Can I / should I pack firmly to the maximum possible and if I do will maximum density result in a lower dB level?

Or am I thinking wrong.

Or is there anything else I can do to reduce dB levels?

I've seen the "decibel killers" that are around - is that something to look at?

Two silencers boxes containing circa 450hp if that matters.

Is this for a track day? We stick silencers over the end of the tailpipe for TVR track days....

Yes, it's for a track day.

Not going to be used like this on the roads.

Do you know what the dB reduction is when using these?

Yeah, so depending on how the tailpipe on your car sits the ACT ones could work, they'll make you something specific if you call them.

We fit them like this, slide straight on and held with an exhaust clamp..

New packing generally only works if the old packing is burnt away

Those boxes work (to an extant) as do restrictors (or baffles) in exactly the same way as motorcycle ones - reducing the size of the tailpipe

I'd expect there to be some on ebay / Demon Tweeks / Merlin Motorsport that could be made to fit

Mine's definitely burnt away - there's nothing left

I'm looking at the Merlin Motorsport ones now - very reasonable pricing and well worth trying.

Oh if that's the case then definitely repack

I'm not particularly recommending one solution over the other - you might need all 3 !
