Stirlingshire Shocking Roads
Discussion
I live in East Dunbartonshire. I was going up to the Aviemore area on Wednesday. The choices to get to the A9 are either through Lenzie and get onto the A80 or the back road - Stockiemuir Rd then through Kippen then Doune to join the A9. Not much in it timewise. The back road maybe a couple of minutes faster and a change of scenery from motorway driving.
It's a while since I was along the back road. I won't be doing it again. The surfaces on Stockiemuir Rd were dreadful and much of the rest were not much better. Am I imagining it or have these roads got much worse over the last couple of years?
It was bad enough that unless I need to avoid peak hour jams on the A80 I will not be going the back road again.

I think I remember that road as far back as 2008 and there were a few rough spots then. Driving anywhere unfamiliar that is at the mercy of local authority stewardship, to me is a big lottery. Hence I take the assumption that back roads, being less of a priority are to be avoided unless you know them - that said some of the main roads are bad - that’s certainly the case in Northants at least.

Maybe someone in Stirlingshire council reads Pistonheads. Stockiemuir Road closed last week. Presumably for resurfacing. Another stretch of road in the local town also re-surfaced last week.
