Have just been quoted a staggering £1250for new discs and pads!!
Pads alone were just over £300 !!!!

2019 RF 2.0.
I replaced all my brakes and pads from eBay. Mintex/Textar rotors and Mintex/APEC Red pads.

Needless to say, the cost was a fraction of that, well under £300.

I always buy genuine… except last year when Bentley quoted £3k for discs and pads against £1600 at an Indy for pattern parts.

They squeal, despite going back twice.

I broke my golden rule and I regret it.

None at all. They are made by well known brake companies who guarantee OE spec or better. They supply car companies.

The discs on the Bentley are genuine, the original pads were Mintex. After going back, they are now (allegedly) from Bentley's supplier but not branded.

They still squeal.

There you go, OE spec rofl but in my experience, which is varied and many, that's a fitting problem, not a materials problem.

We are also talking about a flyweight sports car, not a 2.5 tonne behemoth.

The reason I replaced all the brakes on the RF was because the OE discs rust like buggery.

my 124 has same brakes as an mx5 and £300 seems about right for named brand parts, I just priced rear diska and pads for mine up and that's about £180, front oddly cheaper.

£1250 feels about right for main dealer with their parts prices and £150/hr rates.
A good independant I'd expect to be about half that.

The main issue is not being able to take it back to Bentley and tell ‘em to sort it. The Bentley tax is what pays for making it their problem.

I have a 2.0 ND1 and replaced the pads all around and rear disks approx 3 weeks ago for £160.

The rear disks were in poor condition and it took a lot of persuasion to get the caliper off the disks due to the lip. Pretty easy job though to be honest and well within reach of most people.

If you do attempt to do it yourself though, the pistons have to be wound back.....this nearly caught me out as I was expecting a trusty clamp would work.

Check out MX-5 Parts to compare prices you've been quoted. Brembo pads/discs are significantly more than standard, if that is what you have.

If you're near to Portsmouth you could go there for them to fit free of charge (providing you buy a pad/disc package).

I was quoted around £900 by the Mazda dealer in Sheffield a couple of years ago, not that I asked for a quote from their generally rubbish customer service! As other owners above have said I also changed them myself for a third of the price. I noticed last week that the dealer has been taken over so perhaps things have improved.
