Trolley Jack for 993

Am after a trolley jack for the car, can anyone offer any info re what and where to buy please? I have seen some on Demon Tweaks, etc.

Also, do I need a mounting plate with the protrusion to fit into the jacking point to use with the jack, or would a rubber block or the like be ok?

Hi Martyn, I've been using a conventional Trolley jack but used a flat of soft of wood to prevent damaging the underside of the car....

I just cut a bit of wood to fit inside the jacking point then nailed it to a flat bit which I put on the jack. A total bodge but it works.

err... this is going to sound pretty odd -

I need to jack the front of my 964 but can't seem to find the appropriate place to put the jack

its kinda low, so it's difficult to see.....

oh bugger it - OK I'm technichally inept!!!

Hi Martyn - the issue with the choice of trolley jack for our cars is obviously getting the slimmest possible. I can't get my old trolley jack under the jacking points and will have to look into a new one (or a 2 post lift but that's another story!). I recall an earlier thread over the past year where this was discussed and someone recommended a particularly low jack - might be worth a forum search.

Look on the sill just begind the front wheels and just in front of the rear wheels.

I'm not sure how you're supposed to lift the car and then put it on axle stands though.

As leo says look there and you will see "squareish metal plates" can't miss em thats's what Ive been using to jack mine up with a bog standard halfrauds trolley jack

Yep, I've been doing the same with my 993.I use a standard Halfords jobbie. My car is not lowered so I've not found it a problem. Also, once you've got the car up there is just room to get an axle stand in next to the jack.

Have a look on pcar.com for some pictures and go carefully.

The key to this is positioning the jack exactly right or you will crack or break the black plastic sill trim.

Take your time, as this is not so easy to see from the side of the car and the front wheels also block your view.

If you want a good jack try searching 'aluminium racing jack' on ebay. Usually turns up a few.

I got mine here and it is very strong, smart, lightweight and will slide easily under my very low GT3. I bought at auction rather than Buy It Now and paid £80 odd.

The halfords one was a pain as I had to use the standard jack to get the car high enough to get the halfords yellow beast in place.

A trick I've used with many cars is to just have a couple of lengths of wide and thick planks that you drive the car onto prior to jacking. They quite often give you that final inch or so that you require to get your jack under. They also give you a bit more space to have a look underneath. Some "rhino ramps" are great also for quick n' easy elevation...
