488 Pista or 488 Pista Piloti

Afternoon all,

I'm looking at a few options for a new weekend toy and one of them is the 488 Pista. However, whilst looking at the various Pista cars on the market, I've come across the 488 Pista Piloti and it does look like an interesting proposition. However the uplift in price seems like quite a jump over the 'standard' Pista. I appreciate that there were a very limited amount produced but I'm struggling to see past a bit of extra carbon, four point harnesses and a special factory paint job.

I do like cars that are quite 'raw' with racing style seats, plenty of carbon fibre and with a decent engine noise/exhaust note - all with a view to keeping the inner child happy and smiling hard. My previous cars include the likes of the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale and the Lamborghini 570 Tecnica Superleggera.

So, I'm posting this in the hope that there's someone out there that has driven both and can provide an educated insight into the differences, but also why the Piloti is worth the money other than the exclusivity of the name.

Pista..Save your money. Pista Piloti no justification for its price difference, offers zero over a Pista, Comical what they ask for these, just another UK 40 RHD cars to the already UK 550 RHD cars. Pista at £275 should be achievable.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Since my post, I 'd done some more digging on the reasoning behind the car and I'd pretty come to the same conclusion. It did have the strong wiff of another marketing ploy to extract even more cash for not a lot in return.

The pricing information is interesting as it's well within budget. Out of interest, does it make a lovely exhaust note or is it muffled/dull with the turbos?

Sound was not so bad, certainly a lot better than my F8 Spider, which didn’t last long. I toyed with a Novitec exhaust on the Pista but my Ferrari dealer was unclear on warranty claim, but I have heard some people having no such problems with their Ferrari dealers in Europe. I think the sound is probably just about right in standard spec now, but in 2019 I thought differently. It’s a great looking car but just get in at the right price, big margin between dealer sell & buy spread.

Cool. thanks for that. I'm going to have a look around a local dealership this week which has a few of the models I'm pondering.

Agreed on the buy/sell figures - if the dealer ain't crying, then I ain't buying....

Out of interest what do you have at the moment?

Had Pista and Pista Spider, then drove an early prototype Assetto Fiorano SF90 around Italian race tracks and was blown away, Pista’s became irrelevant, sold them and ordered AF SF90 Coupe, got the speed bug out of my system after about 2000 miles, done with the new stuff now. Gone back to F12 and Speciale and 991.T Manual. Would consider F12 TDF if I could find a higher mileage car at late 500’s early 600’s, as I like to drive my cars, but not sure in uk there are higher mileage cars. Probably Europe a better bet, but certainly happy with my lot if TDF doesn’t appear. Pista is a great car but never left me feeling an urge to have another one, unlike the F12 & Speciale.

Piloti's are very collectable and command a huge price, the issue is they are too collectable even if you want want just for the exclusivity then you're going to lose a lot when driving it

That's interesting as the other model I'm considering is an SF90 Stradale but need to see one in the flesh. I must admit the F12 TDF & the 812 Competizione are cars that really appeal to me, but they're a bit of a step up in the numbers. I imagine they are worth it but probably a year or two away for me at the moment.

How did you find the SF90? Are dealers still struggling to find buyers for them?

Thanks WCZ, that was the conclusion I came too as well. A car that looks great and will be fine if all you want to do is look at it, however if you put any miles on it then the resale value drops like a stone. So, might as well just buy a Pista and have some fun.

This looks decent value. And in 2025 I don’t think 16k miles is too much for modern Ferraris. 2yr full warranty. Ferrari dealer. What more do you want ? Looks great.

I had a Speciale and would never ever have considered one but everybody seem to say they are exceptional cars even vs the Speciale if you can accept the different noise…

the Piloti seems ridiculous imo - so as thanks for spending a 6-digit figure on participating in the Challenge series, you sell me a car for more money than the normal version and the only thing it has going for it is a little more carbon and a paint job - got to love Ferrari sometimes

I think the yellow stripes may have been stuck on after market. The build plaque is not shown so cannot confirm, but the description only mentions Blu America. Only guessing.

I think price about right considering mileage. In fact a few weeks ago a similar was advertised at £245 k .
I started looking at 488 gtbs and spiders at £150/£160k ,but would love a pista which will be at least £100k more .
Is it worth the extra ? Has anyone had both ?
