E39 saloon bulb replacement

Whilst I was attending to the headlight condensation I mentioned elsewhere I wondered about replacing the various bulbs and their inefficiency.
My car is one of the last of the early e39 series and the headlights are poor in performance. Standard type and not xenon.
Looked on the internet and there are many suggesting that they are the best so what can people here recommend please?

If so you need to look at the state of the reflectors in the headlights themselves. The chrome fails with age and there's no fixing it

But as for bulbs. Osram Nightbreaker or Cool Blue Intense are about as good as they get. About £25 a pair on Amazon
