Importing 2005 Mustang GT from US
Discussion
I’m currently exploring options to import a 2005 Mustang GT Convertible from my Father-in-law in Louisiana, USA to the UK, including full shipping, import plus conversion and registration.
I’ve contacted Ron at STS and Ace American Autos in Leeds so keen to hear if anyone has very recent experience of both, including Mustang specific UK lighting conversion?
Aldo, what are the recommended upgrades to make the car more UK compliant?
Despite only 25k miles and owned from new, the standard suspension is very USA bouncy which I’d definitely want to sort.
Are S197 Mustang parts and upgrades still readily available over here? I prefer OEM but even the GT Premium benefits from a few subtle upgrades IMO.
Hoping to get the car here by end of summer but we’ll see if that’s realistic or not.

I bought a 2020 Shelby GT350 in Indiana in August last year. I asked Ron at STS to bring it in for me. I am very pleased with the way he handled everything, and arranged for Nick Hais to carry out the IVA conversion. My car arrived to me all done in November 2024. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the endorsement of Ron at STS - its very reassuring.
Perhaps a GT350 will be next on my list. Very jealous as I love seeing them when out in Texas/Louisiana.
The only added complication is potential extra tariffs which could materialise any time over the coming days/weeks/months and not ideal if the car is already on the water - not knowing how much the import duty is going to be...

Ron Fenton would be my go-to for importing anything from the US. I've not used him for a vehicle but used him many many times for large parts - wheels/tyres, body panels etc.
I've had an S197 Mustang of some variety for over 15 years now. My current 2011 5.0 I've had for 11 years and counting. No issues with servicing or parts availability from the likes of Rock Auto or USAutomotive. Oil / filters readily available on eBay here in the UK.
Regarding the lighting conversion Ben at Sigma Automotive down in Braintree used to be the go-to but a quick google search and not sure they are still trading. Whatever you do make sure someone who knows what they are doing does the work or you will end up in a whole load of hurt if the SJB throws a wobbly.
Depending where in the UK you are Mike at Modurstang in Chipping Norton is great for servicing, repairs and upgrades. As are American Muscle in Edinburgh.

Imported my Saleen back in 2006
Plenty of aftermarket parts available here, even Euro car parts stock parts for them!
As the car is over 10 years old it will just need an MOT, to pass this the car will require amber indicators to the rear along with side repeaters, will also need a rear fog light with illuminated switch to turn on/off.
