It's such a lottery that best advice is to try them all and try all possible (legal) variables.

Optimum time for renewal is 21-26 days in advance, the closer you are to renewal date tge more the price increases, likewise the further out you are the algorithms see that you are not "motivated" to purchase yet

Two years in and I have found mainstream insurers significantly cheaper than the specialists but others gave had different experiences

‘Don’t leave it till last minute’ is good advice. In my experience, if you just want good fully comp cover, the mainstream insurers are just fine. Anything out of the ordinary, like trackdays or mods, then a specialist broker is likely what you need.

I used moneysupermarket and worked fine. Fewer quotes than for a more common brand, but good enough. I find myself changing insurers almost every year on my cars.

You should see price decreases this year vs last based on the experience of many. The post covid supply chain cost implications have now washed through the system after a couple of years.
