Bloody hell, all this stuff about Nikon, Canon and ISO100, and this guy goes out with a pinhole camera and gets shots like that!

What is a pin hole camera? Are they cheap?! Got any good links? I'm always keen to have fun cheap cameras in my bag with me when I am out on a shoot...

its a box with a tiny (pinhole sized!) hole in it. Because the hole is so small it acts as a lens all by itself without there being any glass. I seem to remember that it is equivalent to about f/160, so exposure times are very long. Of course diffraction is a big "problem" at these apertures so you will never get sharp photos, and there is also a lot of falloff at the edges, which I quite like anyway. But it's not really the sort of thing you just drop in your camera bag to use when you have a second, it takes quite a lot of effort to change the film for starters, normally you will have to use a dark bag.

IIRC Blue Peter showed how to make a pinhole camera in about 1970. You will need: shoebox, film, sticky tape.

Most of them are a damn site better than most of the rubbish we have in here!

Having said that we do have a very interesting looking exhibition about to open a series of photo's by Japanese photographer Araki (use Google image search to see some of his work - not at all safe for work!)

its a box with a tiny (pinhole sized!) hole in it.

Blah, blah, blah.
I purchased a spare body cap a few months ago and had been meaning to get round to producing a PH digital camera. It's simple!

- make a hole in your spare body cap
- Use a piece of a drinks can (drink the beer inside first!) or similar
- get a pen, pencil or something to lightly "punch" a small dimple in the metal
- gently sand away 'til you get a thinner layer
- take pin and make small hole
- stick your hi-tech "hole" inside the body cap with some superglue
- et voila

No focussing, manual metering, have fun!

(I just didn't get it finished fully...)

And passers-by would regard you as an complete idiot, taking photos with no lens and the body cap on!

Even better - tell the Japanese tourists that our technology is fifty years ahead of them....

AHah yes - the virtual holographic lens. Just dial in whatever focal lenth and aperture you want!!

Blimey, I'm going to get this into development at Simpo Labs Inc. Early attempts to make an entire virtual camera failed as we couldn't find the damn thing.
