as posted on another thread, I have a Toyota LC300 landcruiser incoming

I've now started to think about insurance. Having assumed Adrian Flux would offer something (even if expensive), they've now come back and said they can't do it.

Anyone have any other leads or places I can talk to about getting this car insured? I've seen a few on autotrader, so there are some in the country so must be insured somehow....

Thanks.

I'd try A Plan or Howdens anyone who has an agency with Markerstudy.

Don't forget A-Plan, they insure a fair few FJ Cruisers on the off-road scheme. Covers greenlaning as standard.

Thanks. A Plan is now Howdens

They didn't offer the greenlaning option. It wasn't so much the import but the value as its over £50k

Using the number plates of similar cars on autotrader, they've been misregistered as Toyota Alphards but I'm not willing to go down that route

How frustrating. Best of luck. Maybe try some of the Facebook groups for insurance tips?

Looks like this car may spend a year in storage with the occasional run about to keep parts moving ...

Amazed that no insurer will touch it as either they don't have the car or can only do max £40k. How are all the expensive skylines being insured?

They won't even entertain bringing in 2 insurers to spread the risk etc.

Joys!! I was quite excited about using this car asap.

Have you tried Footman James? I use them for a multi vehicle policy, and have had imports on there in the past (albeit none of them had a value of over £50k).

I'd definitely say they were worth a try.

Thanks Ross16v - already tried them but they only do 'classics' and 2023 doesn't fall within that

I've got two brokers who might potentially be able to help, but one needs a reg plate so will have to wait for that one.

I'll report back if I find anyone so it helps future owners.

Thanks. The number seems to redirect to Adrian Flux so not sure if they've merged / been bought over. but AF can't do it.

The other insurer (Howdens Thatcham) who were apparently specialist in this and have come back saying they couldn't find cover due to (a) value of the car and (b) needing it to be parked in a garage or behind locked gates (neither of which I have without buying a new house).

So at the moment I'm now reliant on the broker that wants a reg number after the car lands but also can't guarantee cover. I have a feeling this car may have to go in storage for a year and find a way to occasionally drive it around to avoid it sitting around the whole time.

Alternatively, will speak to my importer friend to see if they can add me to their company / trade policy.

One of the possible options is to try buy a classic and ask one of the major companies (Footman James, Classic Car, etc) to cover the landcruiser as part of a wider private client cover with the classic as the primary car. But finding something that is not too expensive or will hit hard on depreciation but is still a classic for 'private client' purposes is going to be a challenge.

I'm still surprised how there are quite a few LC300s in the country being run, unless it's illegal / dodgy.
