Hoping to extend some work commitments in Brussels with a weekend in Ghent. I did the same in Bruges a couple of years ago and we had a ball. Any recommendations for a good hotel and restaurants? Going at the end of May. Thanks

I will let someone else recommend a hotel as I went with a few mates we just booked a Novotel or ibis in the centre.

Typically we went for a curry, but if you like a good curry I can recommend taste of India. Really good food and reasonable prices.

For drinks with a view check out Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant, great location and venue. Trollekelder is a must if you like your Belgian beer, literally 100's of different beers to choose from in a rustic old building.

Dulle Griet is the most famous pub due to it's location and the tradion of leaving a shoe as a deposit for their home brewed beer served by the litre! It can get very busy but it's still worth a visit.

Enjoy, Ghent is a fantastic old city that is often overlooked.

Gitane is a great little bar, De Planke is a bar on a boat with a very good beer list, Dok for 30 taps mostly of their own beer and excellent food, BBQ, burgers or Italian, 3 food options and a brewery in a converted industrial building 15 minutes walk or so from the city centre.
Dulle Grit has the most comprehensive beer list, but the shoe thing gets on my tits.
Love Ghent me.

Cafe den Turk for old style brown bar, Missy Sippy for usually free live music, shame the bike shop bar was shut down, now that was an experience......

It's not clear how you are travelling. Be aware that Ghent isn't that car friendly. It has a low emission zone that you need to both know about and pre-register for. Next time I'll stop off in Bruges both legs.
