Maser 4200 - inspection
Discussion
Morning all - been an observer of this forum for more than a year - enjoyed reading your experiences of Maserati.
I'm planning to join you with as have just put deposit down on 4200CC (from Maser main dealer) 0252 with 25,000 miles and 2 owners.
My question: do I need to have the car independently inspected, or is the fact that it is being supplied through a main dealer sufficient?? If so, who would you recommend?
Would appreciate comments asap, and very much looking forward to joining the esteemed ranks of you all (and when's the next Maser meet (!!!)...
Thanks,
John

Congratulations!
Had mine just over a year and so far it's been perfect(grasping wooden desk as I type)
Really great car and don't let anyone give you the crap about dodgy 02 models(we have set the record straight with regards that particular perceived wisdom on previous thread's)
Car really deserves a aftermarket zorst to fully realise the sound of the awesome 4.2.
Took the car to Harlow yesterday and managed to flex the right foot a bit(makes a change from usually having some sort of restraint..scamera's,traffic,wife!)had forgotten how bloody quick it is and fell in love again, really well planted and the CC box is at it's best when the car's working hard. Whilst in traffic(surprise) on the way home had a car full of yoof's doing the 'we are not worthy' thing...which was frankly a bit embarrassing but better than getting the bird! (BTW all response to the car from joe public has been so far v.positive, even with me in it
Please put a pic up when you get it, I am sure there will be a meet sometime soon I can vouch for them being a good bunch(having met them for the 1st time recently)Apart from a shifty looking chap with a beard
who will hunt you down and possibly kill you should you ever misdirect a convoy
.
Christ, just realised how much I have written...without even trying to answer your question(sorry!).
Personally I reckon buying from a main dealer should not really require you to bring in someone else to assess the car, don't get me wrong you can have problem's regardless of where it is bought from(as with any car) but in my experience main dealer's are keen to sort thing's out. Perhaps one of the wiser and more experienced on this forum have a alternative view?

Welcome to the clan
I have to admit, the big selling point apart from the looks, the grunt and the ethos was how nice people are towards the car. Seems to be liked as much as an Aston.
The weird bit is peoples reactions e.g. "Jesus, you don't see many of them around".
So enjoy. I am in leeds and will be at "Cars in the park 16th October@bolton abbey". Its on the events thread.
Just in case anyother masers, ferrari's or lambo's fancy stopping off there.

If its coming thru a main dealer and you've got some form of warranty (either whats left of the 3yrs Masser one or an extension from the dealer) your as covered as you're going to be!
Having had 2 4200s the (an 02 and an 04) both were are reliable (odd strange things have gone wrong but nothing that stopped the car or was dangerous) the later car is a bit more sorted, but as long as your car has had all the "campaigns" done there will be no real difference.
My advice is to take the first opportunity you can to get out of this scamera infested land and take her for a blast abroad, the car wants to cruise at 120 not 70! - Also it shows you what a truly excellent GT the Masser is!
